Unit 1 – DB 2 In your own words, briefly describe the following ethical theories: Ethical Relativism: § Ethical relativism is the theory that holds morality which is of one culture. Different groups of people ought to have different ethical standards for evaluating acts as right and wrong. Utilitarianism: § Utilitarianism is a form of consequent which states that the consequences of any action with standard of right and wrong and differs from ethical theories that act dependent upon the motive. Kant’s Categorical Imperative: § Kant’s believed that certain types of actions (drugs, murder, theft, lying, etc.) were absolutely prohibited. Kant used ordinary mortals as the foundation for a derivation of moral law. I suppose you might say that they are different ways of looking at the same moral reality. Select 1 of these theories to discuss how it can apply to a situation from your work or personal life. Kant’s Categorical Imperative: § When I were sentence for federal incarceration for Conspiracy to Drugs for someone else crimes, I felt that it’s not fair that I had to be away from my family and friends for 20 years. I tried to use Kant’s Law as my foundation for being judged so unfairly with the U. S. Federal Judge. I guess I might say there are different ways of looking at it as different ways of looking at it the same moral reality act. I feel that certain laws should be absolutely prohibited. It provided a way for me to evaluate my moral actions and to make moral judgements.
