One of the many takeaways from this module is the idea that you are Big Data. Our every movement on the web leaves traces and patterns of who we are and our interaction with the various platforms can shape our behavior in return. This assignment will require that you collect, analyze and visualize your own behavioral data. The data collection and reflection process should draft a personal story told with data. When aggregated to team members’ work, the team project will result in a social analysis garnered from these stories and supporting resources. Team Component Each category of web platform has a team; and each team is charged with creating a presentation on the collective findings of the tracked data. Teams should think about the individual data in a social context supported by resources (media, articles). Each member of the team is required to share his/her data and engage in discussions (using the Group tools) to collectively develop a more macro (social) analysis of the web platform category. The team analysis should produce statistics and data visualizations and integrate media and academic resources. The analysis should be focused on the larger implications of web experiences mediated by predictive systems, and how individual behaviors impact and are impacted by these. Individual Work Preparation:

 Select one (1) web platform within your team category to track your behavior o Ensure that the variables required can be collected

 Conference with instructor if there are any additional variables you intend to track o All variables listed must be tracked consistently o Pay close attention to the level of measurement and the variable units specified.

 Begin data collection, and continue for the term of a week – 5-7 consecutive days

 Locate at least two (2) good media pieces that discuss quantitative aspects about your platform(this will also serve as a resource for the team project)

Data:

 Using the rules of level of measurement, chose the appropriate statistics to o Calculate at least eight (8) distinct statistics o Ensure to combine variable, i.e. rate, frequency, and time o Create at least four (4) data visualizations to share with your team

 Discuss your personalized experience on the web and how “good” the predictive methods are relative to your tastes and interests.

for the team presentation. For this assignment submit either  an APA Style annotated bibliography, or  an APA Style sources

 Actively discuss, explain, and integrate the resources (Media, articles, readings) into an analysis of the aggregated individual data for the larger social analysis.

 Draft results and conclusions into informed statements about the social and personal implications of the web-platform category and the general dynamic of data-drive web services and consumption.

o Due date Thursday, July 23, 2015, 11:59 PM EST: Team Analysis Presentation:

 Introduce the platforms tracked by team members

 Report minimum ten (10) statistics in the presentation o May be integrated as data visualizations o Four (4) of these must come from resources o Six (6) from the aggregated team data

 Six (6) data visualizations from the aggregated team data should be displayed in the presentation o Data visualizations from resources may be included in addition to the required six.

 Analysis: o Synthesize information, analyses, critiques, and conclusions from the Team DB posts and

resources to form a cohesive analysis of the web-platform o Present the main points of the team analysis as recorded narration accompanied by

summary statements and bullet points  These should be integrated with the statistics and visualizations

 The team presentation should tell a social story about our relationship with the web(planform)

 Presentation platforms may include: o Prezi o PowerPoint o Other presentation platforms (I would recommend to check with me if you want to use

other platforms)

 The presentation should be between 10-15 minutes, included the recorded narration o Screencast-o-matic has a max recording time of 15 minutes for free (for a platform like

Prezi) o Audio can be recorded over PowerPoint slides, synced to slides and transitions/animations o You may also use VoiceThread software

 Only one presentation from the group needs to be submitted.

 The final project is due, Friday, July 24, 2015, 11:59 PM EST
