Organized Crime

Abstract

The current criminal justice system has been having various challenges regarding the implementation of new strategies that are likely to stem out crime in the United States. The most common and ever-present criminal justice challenge that has been in existence for so long is dealing and controlling organized crime. Organized crimes constitute systematic criminal activities that can be either transnational group that operates a chain of activities for profit without necessarily considering the legality of their actions. Organized crime in the United States is not a new phenomenon as security and justice system have had difficult time even uncovering the activities of these groups. Organized criminal groups have modernized their activities making it exceptionally difficult for security forces to detect them. A more sensitive aspect of it all is that these groups are very cautious in their activities, and it is therefore very difficult to know their members. Some of these groups’ members have very high security and federal jobs that usually help in accomplishing their tasks without being noticed by the system. Organized criminal gangs have a very stringent recruitment process, and it can be noted that not everyone can be selected to occupy positions within the system. Most of these criminal groups constitute family members or trusted society members who carry out their tasks. There are very strict system rules that prescribe disciplinary measures that can be taken if a member seems to offer any important information to the security personnel. This paper provides a detailed analysis into the historical perspective, characteristics and the impact organized criminal activities are having on government operations and the lives of citizens in general.
