All individuals these days are tied to their cell phones, which provides access to their texts and emails. This policy provides that when request is made, only the intended recipient will receive the correct access code to login. The public private partnerships (PPP) provides a heavy burden on government and the risks with ensuring users information is always safe and protected, at all times (“What are PPP,” n.d.). Governments primary shift of in this policy is to focus toward deterring all cyber threats while assessing security risk and addressing them immediately (Chabinsky, 2014). With this in mind, the public must understand that the procedures put in place were only in the best interest of users.
The sensitive information that is needed from each user, is to guarantee authentication of those signing up are real, instead of phony accounts filling in to find loop holes to gain into the systems. This also allows us to identify and locate those who are intentionally looking for weaknesses in the system and trying to obtain sensitive information. Most of the sensitive information is already on file with the local government agencies, the questions being asked are for verification purposes to identify the individual registering to use government facilities. The last four digits of a Social Security number can be very common especially the bigger the number of participants (Backhouse, 2015). Birthdays are even more common and are considered less risker than the last four digits (Backhouse, 2015). The only extra information that is needed, is a method to send users for them to receive login credentials when accessing government services.
If the citizens strongly feel that this policy needs to have inputs from the public, then suspension of the policy should be considered for 90 days. To continue and guarantee the safety of users’ information and government systems, the request service system should also be suspended and taken offline to prevent any attacks. All reservations will need to be made in person at the local government office where staff members will be able to complete publics requests. This will protect data while still allowing the continuation of services for all those that requiring use of government facilities without any suspension. The government has allot of input from the public and this allows the public citizens continued input while still addressing cybersecurity concerns.
