Student reponse : 14-13. Why is the healthcare.gov project so important? The healthcare.gov project is so important because is acted as a modern day progressive insurance site, only for healthcare and not car insurance. The idea of the project is to have a healthcare market place for individuals who earn less than four times the federal poverty line to purchase and compare health benefits within their state. The project was meant to coincide with the Affordable Care Act to improve the access, affordability and the quality of health care for Americans. Since healthcare.gov has been created there has been an increase in uninsured people gaining health coverage and fewer American have had problems with paying medical debt. Fewer Americans who would otherwise go without care were also to be able to afford it. The project would have been a one stop shop for American to have easy access to these benefits and for private insurance companies to have an opportunity to service the community. Getting the healthcare.gov project to function properly was also important because President Obama stood behind it. The failure of this project reflected heavily on his leadership and his ability to oversee a project enough to properly plan for unexpected issues or delays. The fact that the percentage rate of people using the site went from 8% to .75% due to errors, this did not allow many Americans to access the site and sign up for healthcare enrollment in time for the annual deadline.
