I chose this song because I felt that it was full of emotion and pain. I did not find it romantic because it was about one sided love that hurts one of the people supposed to be in the relationship. The song is about a man who is willing to do anything for a girl who will not reciprocate his love. In fact she will not go out of her way to make this relationship work. As the song begins the man is apologizing and tries to let the girl to know that he has acknowledged his mistakes and is willing to make the changes that need to be done in order for this relationship to continue.
As I listen to this song it reminds me of moments I have witnessed people who are in relationships with people who are not giving their full attention to their relationships. The man loves the woman so much that he is willing to overlook the bad she does to him and the bad treatment. Love seems to cloud the man’s judgement on issues he could easily find ridiculous such as having her use his weaknesses to bring him down. Anyone who uses your weaknesses to win an argument doesn’t care about how you feel neither do they care about you. This is how people end up having abusive relationships because they are afraid to leave those they are with because that is the kind of love they have been subjected to.
The artist laments on how he has fallen for the lies that she has given him to string him a long to stay with him and not return any favors. She also doesn’t keep her word when she promises to do something for him. She doesn’t seem to let him have moments of imperfections such that he has to keep begging for forgiveness. That is where one needs to draw a line, if you feel you are being used or not being treated equally in a relationship one needs to walk away because it will hurt and that only one person in the relationship is happy.
Some people may interpret this song as a romantic song but I believe a romantic song should be one that the two people reciprocate love for each other and not one sided love. This is song about someone’s pain and what he is going through to ensure that the other person understands that the relationship is beginning to wear him down. “I hope you're not intending, to be so condescending, Its as much as I can take”, the fact that he has now acknowledged the one sided relationship he even has a moment where he sounds like he is giving an ultimatum on how he wants to be treated. Every time he is about to give up on this relationship the girl seems to say something keeps him going back to her even when knows it’s not the right thing. I feel like the girl uses a lot of emotional blackmail to keep the man.
Most people may not agree with me but this are some of the problems people have today, the things they have to persevere in order to be in a relationship or not be alone. This is a sad song, however I would not categorize it as a romantic song but a heartbreak song.
