Slave Code
The slave code was something that was put in place basically to keep black people in check while the masters and there families did what they wanted to do to us. Based on the codes of Barbados the different states modeled their slave codes after them.
South Carolina and Florida codes included provisions as:
· Slaves were illegal to leave the proprietor's property, unless joined by a white individual, or getting consent. On the off chance that a slave leaves the proprietor's property without consent, "each white individual" is required to chastise such slaves
· Any slave endeavoring to flee and leave the province (later, state) gets capital punishment
· Any slave who avoids catch for 20 days or more is to be openly whipped for the main offense; marked with the letter R on the right cheek for the second offense; and lose one ear if truant for thirty days for the third offense; and emasculated for the fourth offense.
· Proprietors declining to maintain the slave code are fined and relinquish responsibility for slaves
· Slave homes are to be scanned at regular intervals for weapons or stolen merchandise. Discipline for infringement raises to incorporate loss of ear, marking, and nose slitting, and for the fourth offense, passing.
· No slave might be permitted to work for pay, or to plant corn, peas or rice; or to keep swine’s, steers, or steeds; or to claim or work a vessel; to purchase or offer; or to wear garments better than 'Negro cloth'
There was a revision done in 1739 with the following amendments:
No slave might be taught to write, work on Sunday, or work over 15 hours for each day in summer, and 14 hours in winter.
· Resolved executing of a slave claims a fine of 700 pounds, and "passion" murdering 350 pounds
· The fine to conceal runaway slaves is $1,000 and a jail sentence of up to one year
· A fine of $100 and six months in jail are forced for utilizing any Black or slave as an assistant
· A fine of $100 and six months in jail are forced on anybody offering or giving mixed drinks to slaves
· A fine of $100 and six months in jail are forced for instructing a slave to peruse and compose, and demise is the punishment for flowing ignitable writing
· Liberating a slave is prohibited, with the exception of by deed, and after 1820, just by consent of the governing body
The standard to which we had to live by were completely horrible and unbelievable as I reviewed the code the was put in place for slave they were set up off of we was used in the international codes for slaves as well. But with the United States we took it a step future they wanted to keep the black slaves completely illiterate. So you see if they can keep you uneducated then they can keep you under there thumb, but there where still some slaves that manage to learn to read. Once found out that they could read the first offense fifty lashes on your bare back, and one hundred lashed for every offence thereafter.
This is because in the earlier 1836, when the white Floridians realized their greatest fear. That the slaves had began a rebellion, but not only was it blacks that was affected by these code they also had Seminole Indians in slavery as well. Because most of the time when you say slavery most people think of blacks, but in the state of Florida there was Indians that were slaves as well. That the slave codes affected, The Slavery codes of Florida and South Carolina both were modeled off of a international code in the Barbados. Most people don’t even not that as it may, Florida was without a doubt a condition of the Confederacy. It authorized its first slave laws in the 1820s, even before it accomplished statehood in 1845 slaves were prohibited by law to learn how to write and read, or the purchase and sell any type of merchandise or products.
One of the largest things that I think that was going on in the international world as well in the United States that I still going on today under that slavery code in Forced prostitution sexual bondage are viewed as contemporary appearances of this recorded wrongdoing, and can be discovered anyplace on the planet. Ladies are regularly ensnared by trickery or pressure with the guarantee of better life and remain captured by power or obligation. Forced marriage can likewise be viewed as a type of subjection, eminently when the lady of the hour has no privilege or chance to deny marriage. This type of marriage can likewise come about out of a capturing of young ladies so as to offer them as brides, this happens mostly in China. Once married they are raped repeatedly, the young ladies are regularly kept safely guarded until they have a child, at which time they will be less likely to leave since they would prefer not to surrender their child to the father.
