MIDTERM EXAM

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Submit your exam via your Assignments Folder and to Turnitin. 2. See Course Schedule for due date and the Syllabus for the time of day it is due. 3. Your response should be a well-written, well-organized discussion of the relevant material covered in this

course.

4. It is crucial that you use information from the textbook and assigned readings. 5. What I am looking for is insightful identification of the key issues and your analysis of those issues. Here

are some suggestions for writing a successful paper:

 Before you start, read and re-read the question to be sure you understand what you are answering.

 Organize your discussion with a logical structure and flow of ideas.

 Prioritize and address multiple aspects of the topic and acknowledge different points of view.

 Clearly explain the reasons behind your ideas and conclusions.

 Refer to course materials and examples to support your views use references, and always with an

explanation of their impact on your reasoning.

 Avoid re-hashing previous work.

 Proofread your work for grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors.

6. This exam does not require you to do research beyond the course materials. You should use ALL of the cur- rently posted lectures, readings, and the textbook.

7. For information on how the exam will be graded, carefully review the Midterm Exam Rubric.

Mandatory Technical Guidelines:

1. In total, your exam responses MUST be less than 6 double-spaced pages (excluding the cover page and the reference pages). There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this page limit.

2. Use a Times New Roman, 12-point font with 1-inch margins on all sides. 3. Include a running heading showing your first and last name and page numbers. 4. Each answer should be in the form of a narrative essay, not lists, notes, or phrases. 5. Do NOT combine your responses to each question into one. Copy/paste the question followed by your re-

sponse.

6. Correctly cite material from the course lectures, textbook, and assigned readings using APA style. 7. Submit your paper to Turnitin and your assignment folder.

MIDTERM EXAM QUESTIONS

Your total exam will address two questions from a choice of three questions. You must answer the first ques-

tion and one of the remaining two questions. Do not discuss this exam with any other person.

MANDATORY QUESTION

You must answer the following question. It is mandatory.

1. Quality of care will continue to be a major challenge across the long-term care continuum in the future. Among the following delivery sites: assisted living facilities, home care, and hospice, select two and

discuss the best mechanisms to promote quality outcomes. Consider both policy mechanisms by payers

and government as well as specific organizational programs long-term care administrators can initiate on

their own.

mechanisms. Please provide a rationale for those aspects of the continuum that you believe are likely to

3. Please describe the traits and training that long-term care administrators will need to be effective in nurs- ing homes or assisted living and home care organizations. Compare and contrast the key similarities and

differences within an institutional and community-based organizational environment.

obvious by the inclusion of between 3-

4 direct quotes from textbook and

readings.

19-20 points

Grammar, sentence structure, style are

appropriate. The answer is free of

spelling, punctuation, and grammatical

errors. Turninit Originality Report is between 0-15%.

19-20 points

Good

“A-” Paper

The student responds to the question.

The answer has minor lapses in the de-

velopment and/or structure of the dis-

cussion. The student's answer includes

minor absences of effective analysis of

the question.

54-56 points

Answer incorporates course materials,

but not on all key points, or with minor

lapses in effectiveness. Use of text-

book and readings is obvious by the

inclusion of no more than 2 direct

quotes from textbook and readings.

18 points

The answer contains few errors (no

more than 2) that are readily apparent

to the reader but do not impede under-

standing of the written product.
