My Personal Definition of Leadership
What is leadership?
A leader should at a minimum have these three things:
States a clear vision or goal to achieve
Has the confidence to pursue the goal
Has the power and ability to achieve the goal
Leadership is “a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.”
“Always, it seems, the concept of leadership eludes us or turns up in another form to taunt us again with its slipperiness and complexity. So we have invented an endless proliferation of terms to deal with it… and still the concept is not sufficiently defined.” – Warren Bennis
The JFK Vision
President Kennedy stated:
A clear vision
Had the confidence that it could be done
And had the power and ability to achieve it
How My Definition of Leadership Has Changed As a Result of this Course
“Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” Vince Lombardi , Head Coach for the Green Bay Packers (1959-1967)
“...there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to leadership. Effective leadership entails many different elements and skill sets. Understanding yourself, understanding others, and understanding how to influence the mission to be accomplished is an ongoing process.”

What I have gleaned from this course and will apply to my future leadership roles?
My Personal Leadership Values and Leadership Vision
To do my best in life and provide a positive role model for all people that I meet.
My Vision
Through teaching, I can help prepare individuals to:
make ethical choices in their lives.
understand and practice leadership principles and teamwork traits that will benefit themselves and those with whom they associate.
promote diversity within their daily lives.
My Mission
My Values
My personal vision and mission were developed based off my core values of: Integrity, courage, perseverance, loyalty, kindness, and determination
My Action Plan for Developing My Leadership Skills
A servant leader must attend to the needs of followers and help them become healthier, wiser and more willing to accept their responsibilities. Service includes nurturing, defending, and empowering followers. The servant leader must stand for what is good and right, even in the midst of adversity.
But, I’m working on it.
“I still don’t know what I don’t know about leadership.”
“In the absence of truly defined leadership, the decisions of idiots will prevail.”
My Personal Quotes
“In order to understand how to lead by example, we must first know how to follow by example.”
