Thomas Tolbert

Thomas Tolbert grew up in a small town named "Seville" in Northern Florida. Which is

45 minutes west of famous Daytona Beach. This small town has a population less than 500

people of mixed ethnicities, White, Black and Latinos. His childhood was very strict and

tumultuous, he had years of working hard for long periods of hours because his dad was very

strict and his main focus was working. Due to his father's ways he constantly dreamt of

becoming something big in life and achieving great goals. Thomas Tolbert's best memory as a

child was when his dad bought him a pit bull puppy, which he named Butch. Butch grew up to

be an enorrnous pit bul1, whom was fearless, highly protective, and who loved the kids in the

neighborhood. Butch turned out to be his best friend. His worst memory was the day he left

home for the military. His mother is his best friend so he was sad to go away. As a child Thomas

got the nickname o'Pop" which his mother gave him. He doesn't know where his mother got the

nirme from and she never explained it to him.

When Thomas was a child, his deceased Grandmother used to always talk to him about

the goodness of the Lord on her porch. He would stare into her green eyes, and she would also

speak to him about little moments of her life, and he would try to place his mind during the

events she would share with him. Even to this day he misses his grandmother dearly. The

happiest moment of his life was when his dad bought him his ftrstKZ-200 Kawasaki motorcycle.

However, the saddest time of his life was when he was 12 years old and fell in love with a

European American girl, but she never knew his feelings for her. One day a friend of his told him

that she had a boyfriend, and he cried for hours on the floor when he reached home. His Uncle

Abraham had the biggest influence on his life. Uncle Abraham graduated from the University of

Florida, during the early 80's, landed a big job with Pillsbury as an accountant, and now works

as a General manager for Toyota in Nashville, Tn. Due to the fact that he was so successful and

career driven he gave Thomas great in-sight into his life.

One of the most important lesson he leamed in life is that, life is a revolving circle,

everyone is the same no matter where you go in the world. That wisdom was giving to him by a

man named Mr. Chuck who used to cut his hair when he was growing up in Northem Florida. He

had always loved to sit in his chair while getting his hair cut and soak in his wisdom. The last

time he seen Mr. Chuck was last year atthe age of 90 years old. The second most important

lesson he leamed was, don't take people, opportunities, or life for granted. Time is a highly

abused commodity, and when you need it the most, it has a way of reminding you times keeps

moving and doesn't stop for no one. Therefore, you must make whatever time you have count.

Thomas is currently a video teleconference engineer for the U.S Amy Pacific, Head

Quarters providing communications services for the Commanding General. He landed this job

when his Senior Chief IT specialist, sent him to a temporary duty station at Davis Monthan Air

Force Base. There he worked with a civilian, whom took him under his wing and showed him

the ins and outs of the job field. He landed his first job as a Video tele-conference engineer in

2006. Thomas sees his greatest strength as being resilient, to be able to recover from a

disappointment. Over the years, he has learned how to pick myself up, dust ofl and keep

moving forward after unforeseen setbacks. When asked how he would like to be remembered he

stated that, he would like to be remember as a person who was tenacious in achieving his goal,

and someone who wanted everyone to tap into the God given power that he placed in everyone.

For his future grandchildren, reading this many years &om now, the wisdom he has for them is

that, with "God" all things are possible, keep Jesus number one in your life and watch where he

takes you.
