Introduction
Stress in psychology gets regarded as the feeling of strain or pressure. Stress can be beneficial if it is in a small amount. For instance, a small amount of positive pressure assists an athletic to improve performance. It also enables individuals to adapt, motivate and respond to the environment. However, excess stress is harmful because it increases body harm. Stress is known to cause heart attack, ulcers, and mental illness. On the other hand, stress management is a broad range of techniques and psychotherapies designed to control the levels of stress, more so chronic stress. Internal factors such as negative self-talk, pessimism, and constant worry can cause stress. External factors include financial challenges, significant life changes, relationship difficulties, and work schedule (Charlesworth, & Nathan, 2014). The method may include abusing drugs, eating plenty of food, withdrawing from family members and friends, oversleeping, and procreating. This approach may reduce stress for a while but in the long run, they may prove to be dangerous. Interestingly, no particular method will work for everyone. Individuals should visit psychiatrists or try various methods to manage their stress. Comment by Kehiante McKinley: Citation needed. Comment by Kehiante McKinley: citation

Social engagements can also contribute to managing stress significantly. Social engagement such as watching a football match, having a dinner with a friend, and confiding in a friend can help reducing stress. Sociologists argue such actions help avoid overreacting to an internal or external stressor. More so, talking to a confidant serves to calm the nervous system and eventually to lead to calmness. Avoiding unnecessary is another way of managing stress. Some foreseeable stressors such as heavy traffic, collision with the boss, and heartbreaks can get prevented by using past experience. For instance, if the supervisor does not want employees to be late, then it is advisable to arrive at the workstation on time. Learning to say no also helps avoid some stressors. For instance, they enable an individual to stop taking more than they can handle. Importantly, avoiding people who bring stress as well as managing one's environment can help manage stress (Geter, 2010).
Altering a situation is another sure method of managing stress. A stressful situation that cannot get avoided is better off if altered. For instance, stressful feelings should be expressed instead of bottling them up. If a person is stressing you, be assertive and let them know it. For example, if you have an exam and your noisy roommate is in, it is important to let them know you have an exam. By advising it helps to avoid harboring anger against someone. At times, it is good to compromise a situation. "Two individual in an adverse situation should bend their rules a bit and reach a middle ground that is acceptable to both" (McMahon, 2011). Similarly, adapting to a stressor can be helpful however controversial it is. How one analyzes can have an effect on their stress level. More so, having a negative feeling can increase or ignite tension. It is important to adjust attitude and expectations towards a stressful situation. Reframing problems enable individuals to view them from a positive perspective. For instance, instead of fuming over a broken relationship, take it as an opportunity to find someone more attractive and better. It is also worthy to mediate over a situation and move on. For instance, there is no need to mourn for a long time over a departed relative since they will never come back. Instead, adjust to the situation and embrace your fate (McMahon, 2011). Alternatively, one can accept the thing they cannot change. Some stressors are better off embraced than tackled since they cannot be avoided, changed, or prevented. Serious illness or economic recession requires external forces to manage. Other peoples’ behaviors are beyond our control. As such, we should never try to control them. It times its better to forgive someone to calm down (Smith, 2012). Comment by Kehiante McKinley: Combined paragaphs- same topic. Make sure you keep them combined in the final draft.
