Open data is data that can be reused and redistributed by anyone. This can create potential privacy implications of our companies open data initiative. One type of open data is availability and access. This refers to the data being available as a whole and it must be available in convenient form ("What is Open Data?," n.d.). If documents and data are readily available on the Internet and anyone can download it then it is free for anyone to use. This type of open data can cause privacy implications because people can use our information and share it with whomever they want so the information is not secure.
Re-use and redistribution is another type of open data. This type is when the data must be provided under terms that permit the re-use. This could cause an implication on our company because people can take our information and share it with other companies. Our documents need to have terms that do not allow the reuse and distribution so that our documents are not forwarded or shared with other companies. This way, other companies will not be able to steal our ideas and data.
Universal participation is when everyone must be able to use and redistribute data. As a company, we cannot discriminate over certain types of people or groups. When sharing documents, they need to be shared with everyone that it pertains to and not just certain individuals that we feel deserve to see the data. Documents will be shared with everyone in the company so that there is no discrimination over any employees.
