Running head: CRITICAL INCIDENT

Critical Incident

To me learning is knowledge that helps me live better understand myself, my society and my surrounding environment. In other words, learning is the means to a better future. My enthusiasm to learn and magnify my knowledge has motivated me to succeed even during challenging times. Moving from the east to the west with limited language knowledge has made me become stronger, more patient, co-operative and a quick learner. As there were many barriers that were hindering my opportunity to gain knowledge from the west, I was determined to leave Saudi Arabia and obtain a Master’s degree in Canada. Accomplishing my graduate degree would be the greatest accomplishment not only for me but also for my family, as I would be the first one in my family to have a Master’s degree. I am an individual who is determined and willing to work hard in order to succeed in my goal. My eagerness and perseverance will help me succeed at my goals and dreams. My aim is to successfully graduate and make my family and my country proud.

My learming journey has allowed me to grow at both a professional and personal level. As well, it has helped me to discover how strong I am and learned many worthy values. The most important values that I have gained from my learning journey are follow your heart, be authentic, and be strong enough to make fateful decisions. In this essay I will expplain how I came to gain these values

I hold a bachelor’s degree in English and as a serious step to follow my parent’s expectations, I applied to get a scholarship in Canada to complete my studys. I traveled to Canada and I chose Vancouver to be my first station in my learning journey. As a holder of a bachelor’s degree in English, I did not struggle in learning English. Although English is different between Canada and my native country Saudi Arabia, I could read and write, but I could not speak very well. Because I am as an easygoing person, I could make many friendships with many girls from many countries to improve my English skills

In that time also, I completed 4 years marriage with no children, so I decided to complete my treatment journey, which begin from my second year of marriage. I went to a clinic, I started a treatment plan to do In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and I did it. After that, I lived two weeks with a lot of hope and I enjoyed the feeling, which was growing. Finally, the clinic called me to say "congratulations you are pregnant". So, I was pregnant and a student in the same time, and I was pregnant with twins. After one month, I lost one of my baby, and I recognized that I could not be both a student and pregnant. Therefore, I had to take a fateful decision, my study or my baby who I wait for 4 years. Finally, I went to my school and my teacher advised me to follow my heart and go back to my country to keep my baby and be a mother. So, I went back and I gave birth to my angle Rose.

Being a mother is the biggest change in my life. My experience in struggling to have a baby was the guide for my significant decision to be a mom rather than complete my study. After I gave birth, I applied again to complete my study and now I am here to accomplish this goal.
