Guided Response: You will respond to your classmates who gave you feedback on your draft post. In addition, post to two classmates on their draft, using the checklist on peer review/feedback to guide your critique. To ensure that everyone receives peer feedback, respond to classmates posts who have no or only one response. Be sure to focus on the thesis statement, topic sentences and paragraphs, research integration, fallacies, and the conclusion. Your initial posts to your classmates should be a minimum of 300-words.
Education has always been a passion of mine even when I was younger I always was trying to explain or solve something for someone. When I first thought about my future and what I was wanting to become I thought that I would stay in the special education department and work as a teacher in a classroom with moderate to severe behaviors. But as I started researching and dreaming about what I am really passionate about I started to realize that I would like to be someone who can help make the changes for education. So when thinking about the position I would like to have in education that I am very passionate about it would be principal or dean at a school.
When looking at an organization to work for I am looking into non-profit, public, private, and online places to work for. When thinking about my career goals and why they are a good fit for me I think about my character and personality but most important I think about why I want to do the job in the first place, which is because I want to make a difference in the world of education whether it be making a community safer for youth or being someone who helps thrive a school. Whether I am working in the community or at a school making sure that the students or youth makes positive choices and expanded their knowledge is why I am interested in this career path.
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” -Martin Luther King (Curatedquotes.com) I believe that in order for a teacher to teach he/she must be willing to learn as well. A good teacher listens to the concerns and ideas that the students have and then helps them understand the question or answer. Critical thinking and being creative is a positive thing and students should never be afraid of exploring their imagination. “Education is wrapped up with who we are as learners and facilitators of learning – and how we are experienced by learners.” (Smith, 2015) Education is when knowledge that can be learned is gained and then that knowledge that is gained can be used to either enhance skills or to teach about skills. The purpose of education is to learn and grow and to become more creative and enhance the skills that we want to learn so that we can become even better than we are. “Education is learning what you didn't even know you didn't know.” -Daniel J. Boorstin (brainyquote.com)
When it comes to learning I think students learn by asking questions and making mistakes. I think that it is important to learn from your mistakes but the key is to learn what you did wrong and be taught how you can do it right. Students learn by expanding their thinking and I would like to assist in the learning experience by being someone who allows students to use their creativity to learn I don’t want to limit the thinking process. I believe that students should always feel like they can dream big.
To become a principal or a dean of schools you have to have certain criteria that will qualify you to be in that position. In public schooling you usually need to have a few years teaching or related experience before becoming a principal. In private schooling experience and a Master’s degree or higher usually can qualify you to a dean position. I plan on finishing my BA in educational studies and then furthering my education in the MA program of Leadership and Administration which can put me in the path of principal or dean. I also want to achieve my EDD in higher education leadership and management. If I do decide to do some teaching before I finish school than I will have to obtain my teaching certification by obtaining my MCAT and my special education certification.
Principals have many responsibilities that must be upheld to keep the school in a good standing and to promote learning and a positive atmosphere for the students. The responsibilities for a principal is to shape a vision of academic success for all students, creating a climate hospitable to education, cultivating leadership in others, showing leadership, managing people, data and processes, and improving school leadership. Creating a vison of academic success for all students is an important standard for principals because it sets up the foundation that the school can aim to achieve. When it comes to creating a climate hospitable to education it is very important for students to feel and have a safe environment that promotes a positive learning experience. Besides being a leader it is also important for a leader to show others how to lead and raising up leaders is important because our world can use some good leaders.
