Employee Motivation, Morale, and Productivity
From the case, Acme is seen to have great potential if only the management can invest in the employees. First, the staff morale is so low such that they are all complaining. From the case, the internal support was being underutilized and for this reason, it reduced their morale. The reason being, the chosen group, were not using their skills and abilities to the maximum. Due to underutilization of the employees’ expertise and abilities made them not to have a sense of achievement (Shaw & Barry, 2015). Moreover, Carol was appointing the same duties to the staff members, and this reduces the morale of employees. It would be better of the internal support team would engage in several activities that would juggle their minds and have them being creative.
Motivation and morale are somehow linked, and it can be said that when an employee is motivated, he or she will increase the morale. For Acme, the employees were not motivated enough to increase their productivity. First, the chosen internal support team asked Carol for funds to attend off-site conferences. Carol rejected the request, and this is one issue with motivation. Attending the conferences would help the employees develop new skills that and this would be a motivational tool. The employees felt that the management of Ron was not efficient. Poor management is yet another issue in motivation (Skudiene & Auruskeviciene, 2012).
When it comes to productivity, since the employees were not motivated, it reduced their productivity level. The workers say that they are being underutilized. This is an issue with productivity since they are not using their maximum capability (Leblebici, 2012). For instance, we see Berl complaining that everyone needs to be more productive. For this reason, Ron needs to focus on bringing in more customers through the help of the internal support team rather that making them work on internal papers alone.
