Part I
The Solar System
Develop an 8- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation. For assistance with this type of assignment, review these resources.
Address the following in your presentation:
· Explain the formation of the solar system.
· Locate an image or draw a cross-section of Earth with descriptions of its geology and atmosphere.
· Locate images and write descriptions of the other terrestrial planets' geology and atmosphere.
· Describe other kinds of objects (asteroids, comets, and so on) found in the solar system.
· Choose one planet, minor planet, and exoplanet to expand on and contrast to the Earth and other bodies described earlier.
List major points in the slides. Include detailed explanations in the speaker notes section that correlate to each point.
Include videos, audio, photos, diagrams, or graphs as appropriate.
Format any citations in your presentation consistent with APA guidelines.
Part II
Telescopes in Astronomy
View the following interactive multimedia located in the Classroom:
· Telescopes self-guided tutorial
· Light and Spectroscopy self-guided tutorial
Write a 700- to 900-word paper in which you discuss the science of sunlight and stars. Include the following elements:
· Explain how the telescope changed our view of the universe and our place in it.
· Explain the major designs of telescopes and discuss their strengths and weaknesses.
· Describe the best places to build ground-based telescopes and why astronomers choose those places.
· Contrast the strengths and weaknesses between building telescopes on the Earth, in orbit, or even on the Moon.
· Explain how different frequencies of light tell more about the birth, life, and death in the nature and properties of the Sun, the stars, and the universe.
· Explain how telescopes manage to operate in wavelengths of light that stretch from radio waves to gamma rays.
Cite at least two references.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
Part III
From the Large-Scale Universe to the Milky Way Paper
Write a 700- to 875-word paper after completing the tutorial. Include the following:
· Cosmology is the study of the universe as a whole. Describe the foundation of modern cosmology.
· The Big Bang theory is a part of cosmology. Explain the Big Bang theory and provide an example of one experiment scientists performed that supported it.
· The Milky Way is just one galaxy that resulted from the Big Bang. Describe the structure of the Milky Way and how dark matter influences it.
· When was dark energy discovered? How has that discovery changed people's view of the universe?
· What is a theory of everything? What does it aim to do to people's understanding of the universe as a whole?
Cite at least two references.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
Part IV
Astronomy Research and the Search of Extraterrestrial Presentation
Create a 10- to 12-slide PowerPoint® presentation in which you discuss life on Earth and the possibilities of extraterrestrial life in our solar system. Include the following elements:
· Describe the properties of life on Earth.
· Explain the theories for the genesis of life.
· Explain the theory of natural selection.
· Briefly describe the evolution of life over the last 3 billion years.
· Assess the possibilities of extraterrestrial life in the universe.
· Discuss humanity's search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
Use at least three outside sources.
Format your sources consistent with APA guidelines.
