The patient is an average age Caucasian who is taking advantage of an insurance scheme to get therapy from a professional regarding his condition.
From the conversation, it can be deduced that the patient is depressed because of his work environment. He enjoys his job but despises how his boss handles him. He gets to have some unpleasant thoughts but has not managed to hurt himself so far. According to Martin, Neighbors & Griffith (2013), these are the typical symptoms of depression. The boss also seems to remind the patient of the father, with whom he did not have a pleasant relationship. His bossy tendencies did not appeal to the patient and his boss being of similar character, enhances the feeling. He has all the typical symptoms of a depression patient and with the right attention, he definitely will get well.
According to Joe, the problem has been with him for a long time and only recently has he decided to seek attention after seeing the positive effects of therapy on his wife. The problem seems hidden and only known to his wife. He has previously not sought attention and this will be his first time seeking therapy.
