Hello to all,

We are essen-ally half-way through the May 2016 session of BUS520. Be sure that you read this email, as it answers frequently-asked ques-ons concerning the Module 3 assignments (Case and SLP):

1) In the Module 3 Case, you are given web hits data and sales data. You are advised that there is a posi-ve rela-onship (or correla-on) between the web hits for any given month and the sales of the following month. Your task is to use linear regression, matching the first 12 months of web hits with 12 months of sales (this means that you must shiR sales up one month in order to properly match hits with sales). Be very careful that you shiR sales up one month (see the Word document with the raw data to help you). Then, you use the linear equa-on to forecast sales for February, March, and April. I have posted the "actual sales" numbers for February, March, and April, so that you can compare the sales given by the Linear Regression (LR) equa-on with the actual (known) sales for these three months.(look in the "News You Can Use sec-on of the course homepage)

2) Module 3 SLP: You must install the plug-in for comple-on of the SLP! If you are using an Apple computer, please get access to a Windows-based PC, so that you can complete the SLP. Get started EARLY - and do NOT skip the videos and prac-ce exercises (you cannot complete the Case and SLP correctly without doing both)!

Good luck with this module - take your -me and get it right! I will accept NO revisions in Module 3. If you take your -me with the background materials, you should have no problem with these assignments. If you need clarifica-on, please be sure to ask. I will not give you the answers, but I will be glad to clarify anything that has not been made clear.
