Poverty

When people talk about the problems that are facing the world these days, people come up with many problems such as global warming, terrorism, and poverty. Poverty is one of the most important problems that is facing the world. Poverty can be described as the lack of minimum basic human needs such as food and shelter and many countries can not find any solution to end this problem according to the Census Bureau website “it has stated that more than 35 million Americans are living in poverty in most years for the past two decades."( census Bureau website) This is approximately 14% of the population of the United States of America. When people discuss the poverty reasons, they find a lot of reasons that cause poverty, and it is very hard to decide which reasons are the main ones. However, most of them agree on two main reasons that cause poverty, which are lack of education and poor environment. Nowadays, most jobs required the person to finish at least his high school, But for some people they quite going to school and start working to support themselves or their families. Poor environment is when the person find themselves in a very poor environment such as grown up in a family that steals and does not teach their children any good manners. Of course, their children will do the same because it is the only thing that they knew. Although, there are some effect of poverty that can harm people and society as well. The top two effects of poverty are health problems and lack of education. The world should stand united and find a very effective solutions for this problems because poverty does not affect the only poor people themselves, it affect the society and other people around the world.

Lack of education leads people to not have a very good job opportunity with a good salary. Lacking a good job, people will find some difficulties taking care of their basic needs, and the little that they earn is spent in their bills it doesn’t go to their needs. Also, when employee are looking for a person to hire for a job they need the person who is more educated to have the position that they are offering they does not someone who have a low of education to take this job. So this cause could leads people who are not educated to not find the job that could provid them with the better lifstyle and they will end up being poor especially in the expensive cities. As Boylington (2014) explains that when hiring a person for job emplyee look if the dgree is fit to the posititon also to the company cultutre. This means that less educated people could not be selected to fill up the postion that the company offering. Moreofer, company needs a person who is a good fit for their company needs and they will get the benefit of hiring him/her.

The environment that one lives in can influence them to stay in poverty. People who live in a poor environment don’t encourage each other to be more successful. People do not encourage them to do well in his/her school in fact they give them bad habits to do every day like stealing or doing some drugs. As a result, the person will have facing problems in their lives because the poor environment will make the person less motivated in his/her live and won’t develop people. Also, he/she will do some things people shouldn’t do especially if they are in an age that wouldn’t let them thinking about their lives clearly. For example, there are two people who came from the same background they are poor and they lives in very poor environment and the two of them wants to change their bad situation. So, one of them, get a work that he can support himself and save money from it even though he don’t get paid well and the other person said most jobs wouldn’t give me a good salary and if ask people in the street for money they would give me money more than the job would give me. The two people continued their life but the life changed for one person who decides to keep his work. He support himself and continue his education and become a manager in his work with a good salary but for the other person he still asking people for money and become hopeless. The moral of this story keep trying to get out from your current situation and don’t listen to some people who they think they lost hope in life and wouldn’t do anything to change their situation. Some of those people who lost their hope in life they use drugs to help them forget about their bad condition that they find and put themselves in. A study published in Ohio universety about the relationship between poverty and crime on Columbus, OH neighborhoods found that "violent crime rates in extremely disadvantaged white neighborhoods were very similar to rates in comparable Black neighborhoods. The violent crime rate in highly disadvantaged Black areas was 22 per 1,000 residents, not much different from the 20 per 1,000 rate in similar white communities." As a result there's no differnce wether you are a black or white person when it comes to poverty because it might make the person comitts a crime based on his bad condition not his color. Also, some people will try to sell drugs to other people to get money from selling drugs. Of course, everyone knows how drugs are bad for the people whose consuming drugs, for their families, for the society, and for the country. In addition, poverty can lead to enhance diseases and make the crime percentage get higher than before. People who lives in skid row environment tend to have more health issues than other people because they don’t go to the hospital if they feel sick and you can find the trash every where. Poverty makes individuals thinks they are in life or death condition, and there is no way to be out of this condition. Furthermore, they try to find legal or illegal ways to help them support themselves and their families. Unfortunately, many of poor people go to the illegal ways because it’s easier for them and they have nothing to lose. So, they will commit crimes like stealing from people or killing people for money or selling drugs.

It is important to know causes of poverty so that people can solve problems, but it is also important to know effects of poverty on people. For example, the student who came from low-income families tends to get a lower score in their academic studies regardless their family situation and some of the students quit going to school and go outside to work in any job. According to a study by Sum and Fogg (1991) found that students who are from low-income families scored below the average percentile “ low-income students scored about 30% but the middle-income student scored about 45%, and the upper-income students scored 70% in their school” (Sum & Fogg,1991). So, those students will be less completive with others student who came from a middle class families or high class. Also, when children are living in poverty, their healthcare quality will be challenging. In most cases, poverty will make the children go for the poor quality of healthcare because of the financial difficulties. According to a study by Jeanne Brooks-Gunn Greg J. Duncan “Low birth weight (2,500 grams or less) and infant mortality are important indicators of child health. Low birth weight is associated with an increased likelihood of subsequent physical health and cognitive and emotional problems that can persist through childhood and adolescence" (The Effects of Poverty on Children, Gunn& J. Duncan)The study have shown that infants living in poverty have low birth weights as well as mental and physical disabilities. Poor health can make the children fall sick more often, and it has been discovered that they are more likely to die before reaching their first birthday especially if the women were homeless because she will likely give birth to babies with low births as well as miscarriages and even infant mortality rates. This is because they do not have access to proper care for their babies. Also, illness makes poor children miss school more often. There is also a higher rate of accidents when compared to the other children not living in poverty. Moreover, they are more likely to suffer from impaired vision as well as hearing impairment, deficiency in iron and can as well have an impaired brain function.

Poverty can cause a family to be stressed in taking care of their daily life needs. When in stress, a person can recess from their current jobs. The poor families are more stressed than the middle-class families. Violence has also been influenced by stress that is caused by poverty. The poor families are also suffering from negative events or bad luck. The African Americans who are underclass have been associated with being the poorest. They are trapped in the inner ghettos and the industries that were offering employment such as textile industries, auto, and steel industries have either been shut down or have been relocated to the suburbs. In the suburbs areas, they are offering jobs to the people who have advanced education, which they lack.

In conclusion, I believe most people around the world does not deserve to be poor. Countries around the world can do a lot to help those people who are in need. Most of the countries aren’t doing any significant action towards this problem which is something awful because many people affected by it and people are dying because of it. Also, if any government doesn’t do anything to fight poverty, the crime percentage will increase. Poverty can be caused by several factors such as lack of education which leads to one to securing a better employment opportunity, low income and one’s concern for the future. As a result, poverty causes poor healthcare, poor education, and homelessness.
