Re:Module 6 DQ 1

Name a few factors that are commonly believed to be necessary for creative thinking to occur. Which do you perceive of as relatively more important and which do you believe are not necessary? Why?

Creative thinking takes looking at what others ignore, look beyond what is in the present and thinking about how something can be improved. People who are creative thinkers think outside the box, are self-motivated, and have creative personality and behavior. Divergent and convergent thinking is considered creative thinking, however there is a difference in views, divergent thinking looks at multiple solutions in order to find one that works and convergent thinking has limits and bounds when looking for solutions. Both divergent and convergent are important because divergent is used for brainstorming and control conditions of problem solving and convergent is used for managerial problem solving, the two is used together during creative thinking (Kohn, Paulus, & Kohn, 2011).

An, Song, and Carr (2016) studied general intelligence, domain knowledge, motivation, creative behavior, and creative personality to find what would predict divergent tanking and creative expert performance. They learn that general intelligence and creative personality predicted creativity as divergent thinking and motivation predict creative behavior. Creative thinkers don’t go with a popular decision just because it is what everyone think is the usual and acceptable way of doing something.  Creativity involves people who have grit and drive to succeed, is innovative, can see the beauty in things others don’t, and have great imagination.  They have an interest in many fields and look at a problem from multiple perspectives. Such person doesn’t believe in failure, because what others consider as failure they take as trial and-error. To them the error in a project is just a step in the right direction during the experiment phase and is expected before reaching their ultimate goal.  They have self-confidence and are devoted to their ideas even when being judge negatively.
