I really enjoyed the book thief film, ells us the story of Liesel Liesel Meminger. She was ten years old Liesel when she traveling by train with her mother and her little brother Werner. Liesel and Werner are being taken to the small town of Mulching, outside of Munich, Germany, to live with foster parents Hans and Rosa.
Werner dies on the train of mysterious causes having to do with poverty, hunger, cold, and lack of medical treatment. Before Liesel arrives in Mulching, she attends her brother's burial in a snowy graveyard. She steals The Grave Digger's Handbook from the cemetery after it falls from a young gravedigger's coat. That was the first book she stole.
Liesel is delivered to a foster family in a small town and later she learns that her mother left her because she is a communist. Her stepmother, Rosa, was a rude in the beginning but caring woman and her stepfather, Hans Hubermann, is a simple kind-hearted man. Liesel befriends her next-door neighbor, the boy Rudy Steiner, and they go together to the school. When Hans discovers that Liesel cannot read, he teaches her using her book and Liesel becomes an obsessed reader.
During a Nazi speech where the locals are forced to burn books in a bonfire, Liesel recovers one book for her and the Major's wife Ilsa Hermann witnesses her action. Meanwhile Hans hides the Jewish Max Vandenburg, who is the son of a deceased friend that saved his life in the war, in the basement of his house and Liesel becomes his friend. One day, Rosa asks Liesel to deliver laundry to the Mayor, but when she saw her she shocked because she saw her stealing book from the fire, but Ilsa invites her to go to her library and tells that she can visit her to read whenever she wants. Sadly, the Mayor expelled her, she start to came and borrow the book as what she said. But in times of war there are many threats and the lives of Liesel, her family and friends will never be the same.
While to the horrors of World War II Germany, Lisle’s stepfather playing on his instrument to ease the intimidation from the sound of war, but when they took him she finds solace by sharing the story with others.
A Jewish refugee In the basement of her home, is being protected by her adoptive parents, when he had sick she stuck with him and read books to heal him.
This truly is a good movie, and a good actress and an amazing story.
