Thesis Statement and Informal Outline Worksheet
In this course, you will write a 1,050- to 1,400-word comprehensive Continuing Academic Success essay, due in Week 5. The Week 5 essay will help you apply what you learned in this course and take responsibility for your success in your education and your career. Please review the requirements for the Week 5 assignment to become familiar with the instructions. Starting this week, and in the weeks to come, we will be building upon an outline with a thesis statement, subtopics, and research to assist in your final paper.
For this week, using the Center for Writing Excellence resources, provide your thesis statement and begin creating the informal outline for your Continuing Academic Success essay assignment. Include the following in your outline this week:
· The benefit of creating educational goals, including at least one educational goal you set for yourself
· Your personal learning style, as well as how knowing your learning style can help you be successful as you move through your program and career
· How the writing process can help you advance your education and career
· Which resources, inside and outside of the university, you can use to help you reach your goals and make you more successful
· An explanation of the importance of academic integrity
Thesis Statement
This is a one-sentence summary of your Week 5 paper that will be based on the bulleted items above.
For success to be achieved, an academic process will take place that includes educational goal planning, self-awareness, skilled writing abilities, and the committed decision to utilize my resources while always displaying academic integrity
Informal Outline
Each topic below should be a main idea for a paragraph that might be in your Week 5 assignment (see bulleted items above). Each support point should be something that you plan to write about that relates to the corresponding topic.
1) Educational Goals & Benefits A.) Very important to have goals set in place. This keeps me motivated to learn what’s needed to succeed. I have meaning and purpose to my life.
B.) My goal is to keep my grades up, never give up, and graduate
2) Concrete Experience & Knowledge
A.) Knowledge of the way I learn made it possible to adjust the way I study, which in turn will help me improve my grades and accomplish my educational goals.
B.) Understanding the way I learn makes me more effective in choosing the write career path and major
3.) Writing Helps
A.) This process helps by helping me learn how to stay organized in a very strategic process. Good writing skills can be very beneficial not only in the classroom, but out in the real world as well.
B.) being able to write with some clarity and intellect increases anybody’s chance of success. It shows how you value things and how you value yourself
4.) Resources
A.) Local libraries, university library, CWE, and the university workshops are all a must in order to reach my goals and graduate.
B.) I think a good recourse outside of the university is my parents, and some older friends I have who have already graduated and are very successful today. Support from family and friends will be very beneficial.
5.) Academic Integrity
A.) being dishonest is for the weak. If I can’t learn something on my own, how am I ever going to make it out in the real world? I can’t cheat my way in to a job.
B.) Integrity in general is a great value to have. I think integrity draws people towards it. I am a winner, and winners have integrity.
