First of all I need to put more about my own communication, so I should to use “I”

David, a 21 year old a Spanish student; born in Irondale of The United States of America to a single mother. When he was young, his mother, a committed Christian made David adopt a Christian way of living. In addition, David is a jovial, sociable, and smart and a well-informed person thus making my interaction with him easy. He is a college student pursuing a major in anthropology and sociology. Through socialization and interaction David has become well conversant with his culture.(which topics will you cover in your paper)

People have different perspectives when it comes to culture. Many of these people have their own opinion when defining culture and David responds well to this concept by defining culture as a way of life of a particular group of people or society at a particular place and time. He reiterated that it could be the ways they dress, talk, eat, sing, dance, and interact with others in the society and all these form part of culture.

There are many ways to improve intercultural communication in the society. In part of his explanation, David outlined some of the ways as follows; first, he said people should change the way they think about other cultures which will enable them be mindful of others and promote a sense of good communication with others.

Secondly, he said people should be willing to change their behavior. By doing so, they would accommodate everyone comfortably. His final contribution mainly focused on the need to make people change the way they feel about others and thus help overcome bias among different groups. Our feelings of others are a very important aspect to consider promoting good intercultural communication.

In real life situation, there are some cultural experiences that affect the way we think. In his response, Mr. David said that in the event that someone focuses more on social activities and scenes instead of concentrating on personal opinions, the way they perceive things influences their memory about it. Another example is that some cultures keep goats as farm animals whereas others keep goats as pets. Studies show that we perceive things differently depending on our cultural view. For instance, Eskimos have many words for snow because they always experience it.

Different cultures have specific ways of ensuring effective communication. According to David’s culture, for effective communication, a person needs to be specific, clear, and confident. They should also consider being reasonable on the message they need to deliver for others to listen then understand the message. please compare& contrast my culture which is an Arabic culture to the interviewer culture which is Spain.

Language use is a very important aspect people use in their daily life. However, there are problems associated with the use of language. In my interview with David, he agrees that indeed these challenges do exist. His contribution was that some people talk so fast such that trying to get what they are saying becomes difficult whereas others hesitate while talking hence make the a conversation boring. you should focus on things like labels, discrimination etc.

At times, there are situations in life where we may exclude others on the basis of culture or gender. Some of these scenarios are worth remembering but I noticed that David was never involved in such situations in life. He believes in the sense of living together in peace the way brothers and sisters do.

Our opinions might vary and our thinking may be diverse when describing the concept of race. David defines race as the way a person is that regards their physical appearances. Besides, (David does not belief that his opinion is same to that of others in his culture because he firmly knows that they share a common belief.) unclear.

Most cultures have some rituals unique to them. David believes that such specific rituals exist. According to his culture, there is a normal ritual performed on children to cleanse them. It involves lying out the infants on the streets while old men jump over the infants while dressed like demons.

Culture is not only a sign of identity but also a sign of belonging. There comes times when someone is affiliated with a group. In my interview, I asked David if he belonged to any group and his response was convincible.( His reaction was that he cannot respond or interact with other people the way he response to a person of the same culture.) unclear. To him, it is because different people have diverse perceptions of the way of doing things. He agreed to be affiliated with a group.

In conclusion, in as much as there are different cultures, they are not in conflict but the differences are unifying factors. Therefore, it is important to note and appreciate the unique values and attributes that are in other cultures. I have come to learn that as much as we have a difference in cultures, we should not hold stereotypes about other cultures without getting to know them.
