First Paragraph Introduction |
3 Points The Introduction is a separate paragraph that clearly identifies the organization the author did the service for, explains why the organization exists, and engages the reader with specific details regarding the organization. |

Second Paragraph |
3 Points The second paragraph not only clearly explains the author's particular role at the service learning site and the skills used, but also offers significant details and information about the above. |

Third Paragraph |
3 Points The third paragraph fully engages the reader by discussing two or three of the larger questions about the service experience (see Service Learning reflection questions) with significant details and specific supporting examples. |

Fourth Paragraph |
3 Points The author expounds upon the connections between the service learning experience and the MDG/GSG/CST and/or the Mission Statement of the College and/or the author's field of study, using supporting examples and details. |

Fifth Paragraph (Conclusion) |
3 Points The conclusion is a thorough explanation of what has been learned and/ or how the author has been impacted by the experience and includes specific examples and supporting details. |
Service Learning Journal—Reflection Questions
Questions for third paragraph. (Choose two of these only.)
1. What were your initial expectations about the service learning experience? Have these expectations changed? How? Why?
2. Describe a person you encountered in the community you served who made a strong impression on you, positive or negative.
3. What about your community involvement was an eye-opening or surprising experience for you?
4. Explain how your view of the population with whom you worked has changed as a result of your service.
5. What did you do that seemed to be effective or ineffective in the community?
6. What sorts of things made you feel uncomfortable when you were working with the community?
7. What was the most difficult or satisfying part of the experience and why?
