Research Proposal

A research proposal is helpful to both you and your instructor. It helps you focus your attention on one topic/argument. It also allows your instructor to see if your topic is appropriate/too broad/too narrow early on in the process. As stated in the Norton, a topic proposal should include: a concise discussion of the subject, a clear statement of your intended focus, a rationale for choosing the topic, and mention of resources. I would like you to specifically name and give a brief summary of two sources you’ve found that you plan on using in your final paper.

The research process in English 200 is scaffolded for your benefit. You complete the proposal first, the annotated bibliography second, and then you move on to the final research paper. This should help you manage your time and be prepared for each leg of the process. If you are having difficulties, please come to office hours to see me.
