IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR A VEGETARIAN TO HAVE A HEALTHY DIET
Vegetarianism refers to the practice of abstaining from animal products such as meat, poultry and fish. Vegetarians sometimes refer to themselves as Vegans. They operate on a strict diet, which allows only plant products into their systems. Some vegetarians opt for the lifestyle to maintain their health, while others tend to believe that it is wrong to kill animals, leading them to adopt this lifestyle. Whatever the case, vegetarianism has raised many controversies with many health professionals advocating against and for it. This paper seeks to address the negative impacts of vegetarianism on health. The paper points out on the inability of vegetarians to become healthy and productive individuals.
Freedman Lisa. All-Meat vs. Vegetarian Diets. New York. Men's Fitness. 2016. Print. Freedman addresses the negative impacts of a vegetarian diet. She cites incidences where the vegetarian may lack in energy and calcium. Protein also lacks in a vegetarian's diet. Protein is important for the development of muscles and protection of the immune system. Malnutrition thus becomes a major threat to a vegetarian. I will use this information to talk about the health hazards associated with vegetarianism and why I am against the whole idea.
Getoff David. Vegan and Vegetarian Can't sustain long term. YouTube. 2012. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_E3iMrq-UA. www.ihealthtube.com. In this 6-minute interview of nutritionist David Getoff, the latter claims that there is no right dieting in vegetarianism. The practice appears healthy but has long-term effects on our health. Getoff supports his view with the claims that vegetarians do not live up to five generations. If the diet had been healthy, then this community of people would make it to 5 generations of healthy and fertile individuals. Moreover, if vegetarians have to depend on supplements to be healthy, then vegetarianism is not worth the struggle. I would use this nutritionist perspective to acquire credibility for my argument against vegetarianism since nutritionist are more reliable when it comes to dieting issues.
Saul, Heather. Vegetarians are less healthy and have a lower quality of life than meat-eaters' scientists say. 2014. Independent News. Print. www.indipendent.co.uk/news/science/vegeterians-are-less-healthy-and-have-a-lower-quality-of-life-than-meat-eaters-scientists-say-9236340.html. This journal article relates the health disadvantages of vegetarians. According to scientists, led by Saul, vegetarians have recorded higher cases of mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. The likeliness of a vegan to develop cancer is also elevated. Moreover, this community of people has more allergies as compared to normal feeders. This is traced back to the low cholesterol levels in the body of a vegetarian due to the high intake of fruits and lower cholesterol which turns out not to be healthy after all. This article is written by scientists, who have researched and backed up their facts with undisputable facts. It is important in arguing against vegetarianism from a scientific perspective.
Eric Berg. Problems Being a Vegetarian. YouTube. 2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPePR7Q-byQ. In this 5 minutes lecture, Berg, a 51-year-old chiropractor, who assists people through weight loss by offering effective nutritional advice warns against certain vegetarian practices. Vegetarians he says may develop blood sugar issues, and may break down physically, and lose their hair and teeth. It is important for a vegetarian to keep track of their adrenaline levels before embracing this lifestyle. Moreover, vegetarians must actually eat vegetable and not examples of vegetables, or use supplements as this will be disastrous to their health. This YouTube video is educative, and lays bare the disadvantages of a vegetarian lifestyle and especially to people with lower adrenaline levels. This adds to my argument against vegetarianism and points out the impacts it could have to people with lower adrenaline.
Javier, E. David. Eat more meat? Plant-based diets may hike mental health risks: Report. 2014. CNBC News. This article cites a close relationship between emotional problems in women and vegetarianism. Women who suffer most panic attacks and anxiety issues are vegetarians. The plant-based diets, which these women exposed themselves to, triggered more anxiety incidences by affecting their mental health. The lack of calcium, vitamins and proteins has negative impacts on mental health leading to emotional problems amongst these women. I will use this information to argue further against the various impacts on the female sex that a vegetarian lifestyle may bring.
Andrew Porterfield. Being a vegetarian can kill you? How the press mashed a genetics story. 2016. Genetic Literacy Project. Print. https://www.geneticliteracyproject.org/2016/04/04/vegetarian-can-kill-press-mashed-genetics-story/. In this journal article, Porterfield conveys information on the presence of a gene, which is a plus to vegetarians. This gene enabled fast processing of fatty acids and omega 3 and assisted in maintaining a healthy weight amongst individuals. People who practice vegetarianism possessed this gene in large quantities, and failure to take in any more fat would lead to this gene processing down all their fat leading to unhealthy weight loss and
Dr. Mercola. The Importance of B Vitamins for Brain Health and Combating Dementia. 2016. ProHealth. Print. http://www.prohealth.com/library/showarticle.cfm?libid=28742. In this short article, Dr. Mercola gives the health benefits of consuming vitamin B to the brain. Vitamin B helps in the creation of brain cells and prevents occurrences of dementia when a person grows older. Dr. Mercola warns of the effects of vegetarianism as it prevents the absorption of B12, which is an important vitamin for the brain. Vegans run the risk of developing the disease if they deprive their brains of such important vitamins. I will use this information to argue on the health risks that vegans pose to their brains.
