Week 1 RESEARCH TOPIC

I believe the more educated our children the less there would be teen pregnancy and STD’s. My research topic is sex education. When should sex education be implemented (what grade)? Would contraception would increase promiscuity? Does sex education effect males and females differently? What encourages pre-marital sex?

WEEK 2 NEED TO DO

Now that you have uploaded the GSS dataset into your SPSS and have taken a look at the Codebook, you are going to create and post a frequency table of your variables.  Complete the following steps:

Give your forum title a unique label specific to your study/variables.  Post a brief explanation of your topic which includes a bit of information about your variables (label them clearly).  Include frequency tables and histograms for each of your variables.  Explain this data in no more than 5 sentences (each variable).

To create a frequency table in SPSS

1.       Open SPSS and open your GSS data file

2.       Click Analyze

3.       Click Descriptive Statistics

4.       Click Frequencies

5.       click open Statistics

6.       make sure that mean, median, mode, standards deviation, and variance are chosen and click Continue

7.       ​Choose the variable that you want to make a frequency table of and click the arrow (this will move it into the right 'Variable' box)

8.       Click OK

Presenting your data in graphic form is also important when conducting quantitative research.  Based on what you have learned from the reading and the weekly lesson, create a graphic representation of your data.  Directions for each can be found in your textbook.  You can also follow the following steps, but remember to format the chart accordingly (labels, black and white color, etc.).

WEEK 3

The research question for this study is what is the effect of sex education offered in schools on the rates of teen pregnancy?

The research is guided by the following hypotheses:

H0: there is no relationship between sex education offered in schools and rates of teen pregnancy.

H1: there is a relationship between sex education offered in schools and rates of teen pregnancy.

The cross table disproves the null hypothesis. There is clearly a connection between the provision of sex education and the rate of teen pregnancy reported in schools. This is very clear from the numbers on the table. Thus, there is a clear relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable. In fact, the independent variable greatly influences the dependent variable. This is why schools with sex education have low cases of pregnancies being reported while schools not providing sex education have high cases of teen pregnancy being reported.

This research paper sought to look at whether or not sex education helped to reduce teen pregnancy rates. The research was guided by the following hypotheses:

H0: comprehensive sex education helps to reduce pregnancies.

H1: comprehensive sex education does not help to reduce pregnancies.

The significance test used for this analysis was the p value. The p-value was paced at 0.082 which is greater than 0.01 pointing at the fact that the null hypothesis is indeed valid.

The findings of this analysis were that sex education helps to reduce instances of unwanted pregnancies. This was especially true with the teen age demographic. The research question was: does sex education help in reducing instances of unwanted pregnancy?

This research sought to look at the effects of sex education on teen pregnancy rates in California schools. The research question was: does sex education affect the rates of teen pregnancy in California schools?

The research was guided by the following hypotheses:

Ho: sex education helps to reduce rates of teen pregnancy in California schools.

H1: sex education does not help in reducing cases of teen pregnancy in California.

The test of significance used was the p-value and was placed at 0.05 which is greater than 0.01 and therefore supporting the null hypothesis.

WEEK 5 NEEDS TO BE IN A CHART LIKE WEEK 6

The research question for this study is what is the effect of sex education offered in schools on the rates of teen pregnancy?

The lambda test scored at 0.51

The lambda score shows that there is an association between the provision of sex education and teen pregnancy rates. This correlation is, however, not a perfect one.

The gamma test scored at 0.43

The gamma score shows that there is a positive relationship between the provision of sex education and engagement in unsafe sex. This positive relationship is moderately strong. 

Pearson’s r scored at 0.31

All of these scores show that there is a very strong association between the dependent and independent variables. This means that the level of association between the offering of sex education and the rates of teen engagement in unprotected sex reported in is very high.

The pearson’s r score shows that there is a positive correlation between the provision of sex education and the instances of teenagers engaging in unsafe sex.

WEEK 6

H0: there is no relationship between sex education in and teen engagement in unsafe sex.

H1: a relationship exists between teen rates of engagement in unsafe sex and sex education in.

The confidence interval selected is 0.05.

The test to be conducted is the ANOVA-test.

P value at 0.05 level of significance is 0.041

Since 0.041<0.05 we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that a relationship exists between sex education and teen engagement in unsafe sex. This impacts the research by hinting that a relationship does in fact exist between sex education and teen engagement in unsafe sex.
