Cell phones are the recent invention into the communication field. They are the worldwide most used communication devices. They have in fact replaced most of the previously used communication ways. They are therefore very present in our every minute life. However comes the challenge: are they dangerous? The answer is that they are dangerous despite their important role in our lives (Ross, 2008).
Many people believe that cell phones have no catastrophic effects in our lives which are not true. Current discoveries have shown that despite the many benefits from cell phones, current calamities are emerging from them (In Yan, 2015). These will range according to field of viewing: health, social and behavioral influence.
With this come certain types of cancers and other health problems. Cell phones emit radiofrequency energy from their antennas which is dangerous to our health. Studies have shown significant increase in brain cancers related to higher amounts of cell phone use. Another study showed a statistically significant increase in the risk of glioma (Ross, 2008).
In addition to this come the social effects of cell phones. It is really a tragedy to know that more negative issues in the society are being attributed to cell phone use. Significantly is the social media influence. Following the social media sharing and interactions, a lot is getting out of hand. A lot of dirty and unethical things are being exchanged over the media (In Yan, 2015). This is leading to social norms erosion and insignificant character.
In addition to this, cell phones are attributing to a number of other social disasters. Due to its addictive use, many drivers are finding themselves being on the phone while driving. This is leading to numerous accidents and loss of lives. On another concern is the discreet of the cell phones. They are giving room to many dangerous happenings in our society. A lot of negative plans are being executed over cell phones. Bank robberies and terrorist activities are being planned online without detection which is a danger posed to mankind (Ross, 2008).
Moreover, cell phones are dragging brain development especially in children. This is common in school children whose brain should be growing steadily fast. Bearing in mind that many children are getting exposed to cell phones at an early age rings a bell. Such children devote most of their time to phone use. This limits their brain growth out of the phone field. It limits their creativity as everything is done through cell phone searches instead of thinking (In Yan, 2015). This in a way draws back their academic prowess.
A recent study case show that children absorb more cell radiation than adults because they have a thinner skin and bones and higher water content in their tissues. With that in mind, it’s probably best to limit children’s exposure to devices like cell phones (Ross, 2008).
In addition to this, we have had numerous cases of dirty and invoking reports on things going around in the media. Most of this is accessed through cell phones by everyone (In Yan, 2015). Therefore they have a bad influence on everyone who is prone to cell phone usage.
In conclusion, cell phone usage has its benefits as well as dangers in its usage. Of more focus is the danger it poses to us as human beings. A lot of health issues, social and behavioral issues are being attributed to cell phone usage. Therefore limits have to be put in place to control these dangers before more harm (Ross, 2008).
