SUBJECT: Quality Improvements

REVIEW OF THE CURRENT SITUATION

The process operators involved in the assembly of Plasti-Brack have undertaken to ensure that quality standards are maintained by performing periodic evaluations and checks on the equipment and work stations in order to ensure that they are working correctly. The quality assessment performed by the process operators does not follow any specific guideline that dictates the terms and conditions to be fulfilled in order to experience the implementation of a successful quality improvement initiative. There has been an increase in the bad plastic inserts during the assembly process thus leading to quality issues in the final product. The increase in the amount of bad plastic inserts during the assembly process can be attributed to the low costs incurred since these parts are cheap thus allowing the plastic scrap to re-processed. The incorporation of these re-processed scraps into the assembly of Plasti-Brack has led to customer complaints about the plastic inserts falling out and the edges of the brackets being sharp, this poses a safety concern on the products.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The process operators need to ensure that the quality management regulations in order to ensure the quality of the Plasti-Brack products is safe, they need to observe quality management techniques and methods that are standardized in order to achieve quality improvement. The process operators need to be more attentive when inspecting the plastic parts in order to ensure that they are of high quality in order to eliminate the risk that the inserted plastic parts pose to the customer. The implementation of standardized evaluation and investigation processes on the assembly line should the priority of the management in order to cut down on the costs that are involved in the compensation of claims by the customers. The brand name has been affected by the complaints made by customers about the quality of the products and the potential risk to their welfare. The company should formulate strategic objectives that safeguard the welfare of the customer by embracing technological innovations that ensure the safety and quality of the Plasti-Brack products. The company should align itself with the legal requirements that govern the production and assembly of products by ensuring that it complies with all the rules and regulations that are put in place. The company should also adopt policies that encourage employee training on the management of the production process in order to ensure the products are of high quality and are safe. The company should make sure that the employees are aware of the potential risk posed by products that are poor in quality by instituting policies that call for responsibility and accountability in order to guarantee the safety of the customer through the production of high quality products.

ACTIONS/PLANS

The management of Excellent Manufacturing Company should implement the quality management six sigma in order to enable it to produce Plasti-Brack products that are safe and of high quality thus satisfying the customer. The implementation of the six sigma will help the process operators to measure the quality of the Plasti-Brack products by striving to meet their perfection through the application of a data-driven approach and methodology that seeks to eliminate the defects that occur in the assembly process of the Plasti-Brack products. The implementation of the black belt sigma is essential in finding solutions for the problems that occur in the production line, this sigma program is focused on problem-solving projects by training and coaching project teams in order to provide them with the adequate skills to improve the quality of products. The green belt sigma helps the black belt project teams to reach the set objectives since they provide them with data which yields important outcomes after it has been evaluated and analyzed, this data provides the project teams with the weaknesses and strengths of a certain area of the assembly line. The management needs to create specialized teams to handle the different segments of the assembly line in order to ensure that only top notch products are produced, each team should be responsible for a certain area of the production line. This ensures that the products that are produced are of high quality, this can be achieved through the utilization of total quality management techniques and methods. The production process should be customer focused, this requires total employee involvement since it guarantees the commitment towards meeting the customer’s needs. The employees should strive to satisfy the needs of the customer by integrating high performance work systems that require continuous improvement efforts. The application of a process centered assembly line ensures that the products that are produced are of high quality since they are continuously monitored in order to detect any defects. The incorporation of the ISO 9000 standards into the company’s culture helps foster the environment that strives to produce products that are of excellent quality since the employees continuously seek alternative ways to improve the quality of the Plasti-Brack products.
