Abstract

Should The U.K Leave The E.U?

Europe has a bloody history with the dark ages and wars. Being reunited was a dream that is hard to be reached. Many organizational conferences made but all ended, until the European Union (E.U.) came at November 1st, 1993. The E.U. is actually a new version of the European Economic Community that was founded in 1957; however, the U.K. did not become a member until 1973 (BBC, n.d.). Moreover, there are some strategies that the E.U. works by. According to the BBC “There are four key institutions which work together to run the EU - the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Council and the Court of Justice” (BBC, n.d.). All these keys are the major factors that run the E.U. The E.U. gets funded for the members that are registered. The funds are spent on many things that match member’s interests, such as supporting poorer regions (BBC, n.d.). There are also policies that also follow the population needs that do not require spending money from the Union. Recently there was a referendum that was made by the U.K. government. The referendum was basically asking, should the U.K. leave the E.U. or not?

Leaving the E.U. is a huge decision that can lead to unpredicted circumstance. It is a new experience that no country tried before. Either leaving the E.U. or staying will guide the Kingdom through a new path that must be well studied and planed. After leaving the E.U., the U.K. will face differences at their strategies. Those differences will confidently not come without difficulties, which the U.K. must face. Moreover, Will Straw, British policy researcher and Labour Party politician and executive director of the Britain Stronger in Europe campaign, claimed "Our membership of the EU gives us clout across the world" (BBC, 2016). This clout is very important for each country around the world. The U.K. has it strongly; nevertheless, the U.K. might face a lack of it after determining their membership at the E.U. In addition to that, the freedom of living that the British people are having might decline. According to the Europe Direct Leeds “EU citizens can live, work, study and retire in another EU country” (EDL, n.d.). It also claimed, “You can shop in another country where goods are cheaper without restrictions or additional taxes, as long as what you buy is for your own use. The single currency, the euro, allows you to compare prices directly in all the countries that use it. Travel between euro countries is easier because the costs and inconvenience of changing money have disappeared” (EDL, n.d.) These are easy and basic rights that the British people will miss after leaving the E.U. It is a way of living that many people are living with and might affect directly on their lives. Although many people believe that they are better without the E.U., they are better within it for many reasons.
