When someone attacks your position or argument, this person can be considered a “naysayer.” You should ​anticipate your naysayers​, introduce​ ​them to the reader as a competing perspective or argument, and then refute​ ​them with some evidence and/or argument. Occasionally, you may need to concede the naysayer’s point while emphasizing the greater relevance or strength of your overall argument. In this assignment, you will both state and support your position ​and also ​present and respond to various “naysayers” who contradict your position.

Expectations​: Give your essay a descriptive, engaging title that catches the reader’s attention. Your introduction should “hook” the reader’s attention, briefly summarize the topic and the different positions on it, and then state your argumentative thesis as a response to the “naysayers” who hold different positions. Your argumentative thesis should state your opinion or position as well as some supporting reasons for it. The body paragraphs should support your argumentative thesis by explaining how certain information and arguments support it, how certain information “naysays” it, and why these naysayers are incorrect, invalid, or short-sighted. All information obtained through outside research should be appropriately-cited with MLA-style in-text citations and an MLA-style Works Cited page. The paper should have a separate conclusion that restates the essay’s thesis and summarizes its strongest supporting points. You may reuse material from your Annotated Bibliography and Rhetorical Analysis. You do not have to cite your own writing (e.g., your annotation of a source’s rhetoric or credibility, or a passage from the Informative Research Paper). However, you will need to cite any original sources that you use with either a “signal phrase” or a “parenthetical citation.”

Requirements​: ● Addresses the same topic proposed in the Topic Proposal ● MLA-style heading, format, in-text citations, and Works Cited page. ● Cites ​10​ or more outside sources.
