“There is an urgent need to stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry, dramatically reduce wasted energy, and significantly shift our power supplies from oil, coal, and natural gas to wind, solar, geothermal, and other renewable energy sources.” (McKibben, 2001) Alternative energy is any type of energy that is generated in different ways without cleaning out the natural resources or the environment. (Jessa, 2010) Also, alternative energy would last long time by using the feature of the environment. Moreover, it is a safe resource of energy for the environment. Alternative energy should substitute the use of fossil fuel because it is clean, unlimited, and renovate it.
With the rise of oil prices, and the concerns of national security because of the increase of the use of sustainable energy, number of members of Congress and their constituents started looking for alternative energy as available solution. We can find alternative energy in many forms like geothermal, solar, wind, and so on. (Alternative Energy Production & Services: Background, n.d.)
The fossil-based fuel currently provide almost 85% of all the use in the U.S. and worldwide. The cost of alternative energy is getting cheaper. To illustrate this, the cost of natural gas is about $0.07-0.13/KW-HR, which is a lot cheaper than the fossil fuel. Also, alternative energy would save a lot of money for countries that use a lot fossil fuel. In addition, alternative energy will keep our environment clean and healthy for the next generations. Biofuels have a huge number of advantages more than the current fossil fuel. For example, biofuels would reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG), which means that transportations would become useful for the environment and could play a main role in order to reduce climate change. The GHG emissions level are linked with a special biofuel depending on the energy that used in harvesting and growing the feedstock. There is a base of cycle in a combustible, the ethanol of corn has the potential of reduce the emissions of gases and the greenhouse effect to a 52% with the respective combustible based in petroleum. Even better the ethanol is made by cellulosic feedstocks or agricultural residues like switchgrass that has the potential to reduce emissions of gas and the greenhouse effect to a 86% in comparison with the gasoline. Solar power is the main choice to develop the global energy with acceptable price. It could take a place of fossil fuel in all over the world. The solar power that the earth receives would cover the need of yearly energy more than 10,000 time over the world. In many situations, the solar electricity cost is very competitive. The cost to build both modules and solar cells have decreased. For the last 20 years, the cost of PV (photo-voltaic) system decreased by 5% per year. Some people think that there would be enough natural gas and oil in non-wilderness in the United States and overseas, which would heat about 100 million homes and fuel 50 million cars in the next 25 years. Also, if the Congress wants to expand the available areas for exploration, we could make more private energy useable to Americans in the future. While we have a lot of oil spots, the drop of oil prices would not affect our economy. (Can alternative energy effectively replace fossil fuels?, 2013)
In addition, the increase of the use of corn for ethanol became a real problem to customers because the prices of the U.S. chicken, egg, milk, and beef have become a real trouble to consumers. Also, because of the increase of the global population to 8-9 billion toward mid-century, we would need more fuel, which means burning grain as fuel. On the other hand, production cost would increase to skyrocket, so that poor people would not be able to eat easily. The use of biofuels and corn to solve the power problems is not applicable. (Can alternative energy effectively replace fossil fuels?, 2013)
Even though alternative energy is the future of the energy, some people still think that it is not going to be good as the fossil fuel. Alternative energy is renewable, unlimited, and clean for our environment. The benefit of alternative energy will help our society not to be depending on the fossil fuel. It will keep our environment healthy and clean for the net generations.

Solar power is a prime choice in developing an affordable and feasible global power source that can substitute fossil fuels in all the world's climate zones. The solar radiation reaching the earth's surface in one year provides more than 10,000 times the world's yearly energy needs
