Online pornography—What is it

How to control pornography on Internet

Conclusion

60% of the Internet is estimated to be pornography.

Why does pornography on the Internet concern us?

The core consideration at work here is the fact that you can’t make people behave.  (Keep in mind that claims and warrants are in informative writing as well as persuasive writing—what one leaves out can speak volumes)

Coercion is the use of force to make people behave—torture would be an example.

The consequences of not behaving would prove staggering.

If one receives a smack on the wrist for breaking the law and stays at a minimum security facility, they play golf.

Returning to our example, of the 60%, some of it is downright illegal.

Catharsis Theory=States that access to pornography will provide the user with sexual gratification, thereby protecting women and children.

A moment when one finally gets relief after the climax of the play, etc.

Ways to manage pornography on the Internet:

Ban it

Parental control

Must pay a lot of money to access it

Use an access code—only way to see

material

Beware off-shore sites

Opponents to the catharsis theory say that eventually one’s needs will ramp up to the point where just looking is inadequate for purposes of gratification.

Ultimately, we must ask why we are advocating controlling pornography on the Internet.
