Two definitions:

A collection of quantitative data pertaining to a particular subject

The science that deals with the collection, tabulation, analysis, interpretation and presentation of quantitative data

Deductive(Descriptive) & inductive statistics

Collection of data

Variables or attributes

A variable is either continuous or discrete

Difference between accuracy & precision

Graphical & analytical presentation of data

Deductive (descriptive) statistics

Describes and analyzes a subject or group

Examples are sports data

Such as batting average, ERA, QB rating

Inductive statistics

Determines a conclusion from a small amount of data about a much larger amount of data

Examples are surveys or sampling
