In the recent years, most business organizations have realised the need to protect the environment and deal with environmental disasters. There are measures that have been adopted to ensure the safety of workers as well as the local community. This paper critically examines the essay on the impact of the environmental disaster in Bhopal city.

According to the findings of the research on the impact of disaster brought about by the chemical industry, more than half of the population of the Bhopal city are exposed to the disaster. Moreover, cases of death due to gas leakage have claimed the lives of three percent of the population. The deaths are caused by gradual cases of prolonged respiratory diseases, psychological problems and retarded growth.

There are major causes of the gas leakages from the chemical industries that have been located near human settlements. For example, the use of ineffective pipes leads to massive leakage of gases and other toxic gases which the cause respiratory diseases. Another cause of gas leakage is a massive pressure that is used to pump the gases in the chemical industries. According to McKinney & Scorch (2012), one major factor that has also led to the occurrence of disasters in industries is the negligence of workers. The employees usually fail to maintain the gas pipes thus exposing the public to various health risks.

The occurrence of the disaster is also caused by the lack of an emergency reporting system that can help during gas leakages. Chemical manufacturing industries should equip themselves with emergency reporting systems that can help in controlling gas leaks.

There are various avoidance measures that can be used to prevent disasters according to the research. For instance, the chemical industries should be located far away from human settlements. The location of such industries should be in remote areas that are sparsely populated. This will avoid the expose of the dangers to the people living in such places.

Moreover, according to the paper, chemical industries should install effective equipment that can ensure the safety of the employees as well as the general public. Safety measures such as using advanced technology to ensure the safety of the workers and the local community.

Another measure that can be used to avoid the occurrence of disasters is through adherence to industrial policies. The policies outline how the firms should put various measures to deal with any disaster that has occurred. The federal government usually regulate the activities of the chemical industries.

The paper also examined the various ways of achieving production profits. One way is through the use of the third party medical scheme. The chemical industries should provide healthcare for the people who have been infected with various diseases as a result of the presence of the toxic gases. Moreover, the victims of the disasters should be compensated. Through compensation, the victims can seek treatment as well as get income to improve their live hood in the society.
