Introduction

I have been asked to compose a team to select the appropriate Enterprise resource Planning Software that would be fit the organization. This team will be compose of members who developed the required skill set and abilities to aid me in the decision making process in determining what will work best for our given needs. The ERP system chosen will need to be one that aids the organization in all facets of business; aiding in the reduction of waste thus maximizing our resources, and reducing time where we are on strict deadlines. This system will also help in organizing the coordination of: product planning, operation, development, sales, marketing, and let’s not forget manufacturing.

ERP systems are put in place to unify applications allowing the organization to more effectively and efficiently manage their back offices when faced with deadlines. The utilizing organization becomes better coordinated at handling and achieving business objectives with the allotted resources that they have at the expense. As we know ERP integrates back office function such as human resources and technology, along with other facts such as product planning, operation, development, sales, marketing, and let’s not forget manufacturing. In order to achieve and maximize the use and efficiency of an organization chosen Enterprise Resource Planning System this comes by have the needed skilled chosen team for the job.

A myriad of factors play there role when it comes to team selection since this is a critical task in the ERP systems composition. We need to ask ourselves a couple of questions. What leading departments would be effected? Who from these departments possess the necessary skills sets that would be a great match for the team? Among the individuals will the necessary skill sets what are their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses? We are going for team cohesion. Yet, it’s not as simple as that. We need individuals who will be innovative and bring new ideas and alternative aspects and views that can cooperate to handle this task. It is imperative that in forming this team we exercise our due diligence.

Members for inclusion:

· Warehouse Manager (myself)

· Finance

· Human Resources

· Training

· IT

· Upper management

The members I would elect to include on a decision making team someone from the financial department, human resources, upper level management, training and IT team. I think this team would ensure that all aspects and bases would be covered giving the chosen ERP its maximum potential. We want finance in on this so that we can know our budget and stay within range and not over exceed expensing and allocating of the given funds efficiently. Human Resources are most effective in the realms of change and change management. Elevations of the organization strengths, wastes, weaknesses, threats, opportunities, and threats can be handle by upper management as well as departmental because they now what we are facing on a lower level departmental, and upper management over all. Training and IT knows if software upgrades are needed. I believe this route would be the best choice for the company in selecting appropriate software.

My reasoning behind having the Training team and IT involved is the fact that this is a complex system we are implementing. This system will be the most vital tool within our organization because of all of the multiple facets of business in which it will integrate for us. The implemented Enterprise Resource Planning System will facilitate error free transaction and production for the organization. Training will know if updates are required. The IT department comes into play due to the fact the Enterprise Resource Planning system runs on a myriad of computer network configurations and hardware. The Enterprise Resource Planning system will call for using a database as an information repository. So it is beneficial to the company to include members on the decision making team who will be responsible for repairs, test, and troubleshooting potential that may arise with the new ERP system.

Conclusion

In conclusion I hope that you see the necessity of these key individuals playing their roles on the decision making team. This way the chosen ERP system will bring maximized efficiency and production to the company as a whole and the benefits generated through its use can be seen and experienced throughout.
