Reality Assignment 2

Human Development

Spring 2016

Introduction

As the Mother of a toddler, the temptation to visit a toy store through the eyes of a toddler is a no brainer. The three topics discussed will cover small visual-motor workspace, surprise, and temperament.

Small visual-motor workspace

Toddlers and adults view the world differently. Adults focus on all of the objects that are in their visual field, and toddlers tend to focus on one thing at a time (Erford, 2015, p. 125).

Surprise

A child’s sense of surprise can be measured by the rate at which they begin raising their eyebrows and expanding their visual field (T. Christiansen, class notes, CNL 7023, Spring 2016). The sense of surprise is automatic when a child walks into a toy store.

Temperament

There are several physiological responses that are used to measure the excitability of a child’s amygdala (Erford, 2015, p. 161).
