Design Principles Of Mobile Devices
Overview
Write seven pages in which you use universal design principles to evaluate your personal handheld device, a display model from a retail store, or a device from a Web site.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
Competency 4: Evaluate common device interfaces and interactive applications. Explain how the principle of flexibility makes products and interactive applications easier for people to use. Explain how the universal design principle of simple and intuitive design makes products and interactive applications easier for people to use. Explain how the universal design principle of perceptible information makes products and interactive applications easier for people to use. Explain how the universal design principle of tolerance for error makes products and interactive applications easier for people to use. Explain how the universal design principle of low physical effort makes products and interactive applications easier for people to use.

Context
Handheld mobile devices are a ubiquitous part of everyday life, yet people in this hurryup, high tech lifestyle do not often take time to reflect upon what creates the most effective design interface of devices they commonly use. Consider the universal design principles concerning (a) flexibility in use, (b) simple, intuitive use, (c) perceptible use, (d) tolerance for error, and (e) low physical effort. These universal design principles are part of seven principles first developed at North Carolina State University (Mace, 1997).

Assessment Instructions Utilizing your own handheld device, a display model from a retail store, or one from a Web site, evaluate your device by using the following universal design principles:
Flexibility in use. Simple and intuitive design. Perceptible information. Tolerance for error. Low physical effort. Size and space for approach and use.
Then, write a sevenpage paper that contains individual sections for each design principle listed above.
You will need to conduct research to complete this assessment. A good place to begin is the Capella library.
Additional Requirements Include a title page and a references page. Include an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph. Include a minimum of three research resources. Be sure to follow APA guidelines for style and formatting. Your finished assessment should be seven pages in length, excluding the title page and references page.
