7. An arrow in an arrow diagram represents an event.

☐True

☐False

8. Dummy activities in arrow diagrams are used for:

☐a. Straightening up the logic relationships.

☐b. Distinguishing identities for activities that share the start and end nodes.

☐c. A dummy activity may consume time or other resources.

☐a and b.

☐a, b, and c.

9. When developing a formal schedule for a project how can you ensure that you are not excluding any activity?

10. Tiles () can be installed at a rate of 50 per worker hour. The floor of a large lobby area () is to be covered with these tiles. If four workers are assigned to this task, what duration (to the nearest whole day) should be assigned to this activity? Assume 8 hrs work day. Show detail calculations.

11. The WBS is a process of hierarchical grouping of activities that provides for a progressively detailed definition of work elements for all levels of review, including staff, functional manager, project manager, or program manager. In your professional life, you will be engaged in different types of process such as design process, manufacturing process, construction process, testing process etc. Image your boss has given you a project for the improvement of an existing process. The project is divided into three phases:

1. Research to determine the best solution to the problem. This research includes the recommendation of a solution, or solutions, to the management

2. Implementation of the approved solutions. If there were more than one approved solution, then the “Phase 2” WBS would be repeated for each solution

3. Evaluation to determine if the solution works. This leads back to further research and continuous process improvement.

Develop a WBS for this project with four levels of activities. Use Tree format for WBS and codes as shown in the bicycle example. I have completed first two levels of activities. Complete two more levels of activities.

1.3 Evaluation

12. Compare and contrast arrow network and node network.

13. Develop an automated Bar Chart Schedule for the project to institute a control chart program in a company using Microsoft Excel. Project Start date May 2nd 2016. Plan for a 5 day work week with weekends and federal holidays off. Upload the Excel file with your midterm exam on D2L.
