Overview of the Course:
This course introduces basic theories and practices of corporate finance. The course has the following principal objectives:
· To provide a foundation in the basic concepts of corporate finance: time value of money, discounted cash flow valuation, capital budgeting, and the risk-return tradeoff; and
· To develop analytical skills useful in financial analysis; and
· To develop perspective and judgment in business decisions and an appreciation for planning and decision-making in a complex world
Required Materials:
· TEXT. Ross, Westerfield, and Jordan (RWJ), Fundamentals of Corporate Finance, 11th Edition, McGraw-Hill Irwin, [ISBN: 978-1259298707]
· FINANCIAL CALCULATOR. Students will be required to use a financial calculator or a web-based equivalent in solving problems in class, on quizzes, exams, and assignments.
· DREXEL LEARN. The course site will contain course materials, such as additional practice problems and course slides. The lecture notes will provide you with a basic framework in the event that you miss a class. However, remember, these notes are only outlines and frequently do not contain all information presented in the lecture.
Prerequisites:
ACCT 115 (D or higher) or HRM 310 (D or higher) AND STAT 201 (D or higher) or STAT 205 (D or higher) or STAT 261 (D or higher)

Homework assignments will be graded for correctness, with the percentage correct corresponding to the percentage of the points scored. Assignments can be repeated with the last score preserved as the final grade. These repeat assignments may be completed after the assignment is due provided that it was completed in a timely manner for the first attempt and a reasonable amount of effort was made. Projects may not be repeated. Homework assignments will generally provide immediate responses via Connect, otherwise hand graded assignments will be returned the following class period i.e. one week. Projects generally will require two weeks to grade.
Laptop/Software:
Students will use a fully functional Excel software program during this course. Students should possess basic Excel skills. If you do not possess a laptop capable of running Excel or similar spreadsheet program let me know right away to make custom arrangements.
Other issues:
1) Please see your student handbook for matters relating to student misconduct. 2) Classroom attendance is strongly encouraged, but not subject to grade. 3) Do not assume that you can miss a scheduled (or unscheduled) quiz or assignment without penalty. Each case will be assessed individually. Notice of a work-related absence should be provided as soon as the conflict is known to the student. 4) Additional information about assigned work or quizzes will be provided during the course.
