Discussion

Through the analysis of the relationship between forces within different systems it is possible to take into consideration physical concepts that apply in everyday lives. Two of the systems implemented in this experiment, the pulley and the inclined plane, are so-called simple machines, and therefore at the basis of more complex apparatus. The pulley, in particular, allows lifting a given load by applying less force than that that would be necessary if pulling it directly, albeit in more time. Mathematical correlations exist between the number and type of pulleys and the force ratio.
