When working in an organization one feels that he should be promoted in time and should be recognized for his/her work and outstanding performance but he might not like the fact that he may be lacking in some part where the management is recommending someone else instead of him. This is where people face challenges and problems when making decisions and when these situations arises there is an issue of maintaining a decent personal as well as professional life, thus to know where the candidate lacks, he should understand the problem he is in as why the company is not letting him grow and try to come up with a solution from which he can also achieve those goals.
You have to know the problem to find the solution if you don’t know the problem then how would you find a solution for it?
There are already many problems when dealing with life either as family problems, relationship problems, educational problems or professional problems but these problems can be solved when you just look at the problems one by one and try to solve it each at single time then it will be solved but when you try to handle problems all at once then you juggle your problems and you are increasing it yourself. There are always solutions to every problem that may occur but it will be on their own hand how they will decide to face the problem as well as find a solution to the problem.
Here I would put myself in a hypothetical situation to analyze the problem through my perspective. The problem I face here is that I have been working for the same company for 11years but, there hasn’t been any type of growth or promotion in the company may be I was not eligible enough that is why the growth was not possible for me in this company. Now I have returned to college to earn a degree. If I complete my graduation and earn a degree the chances of getting promoted in my current job is very high. But on the other hand, another company has offered me a job in their company at the position of a supervisor but the start date of the job is in 2 weeks during the time of my final exams. So the dilemma here is that if I leave my current job to work for that company I have to forfeit the chances of graduating and earning a degree. The company does offer a good package deal of 15k annually on top of that they’ve also offered to pay the car allowance and relocation expenses. The offer of a good salary package and a secured position in the company does sound tempting but a masters degree in hand would help with growth and development in my current company. So the bigger problem is that if I lose the degree the whole working for 11 years will go waste.
Clearly there are 2 options either I am with the current employment or complete my bachelor’s degree or I leave the current organization and start as a supervisor with the competitor because both are benefiting me and the whole discussion is about problem solving which solution is better. The third or last option can be negotiation with the current employer about the promotion which he might get if he tries to negotiate with the current employer, that he is getting a pretty good position as well as hike from the competitors and if you want to retain your asset in your own company then they should also offer some lucrative offers to reduce attrition. The third option may or may not work because of how other people are performing and how valuable asset he is.
In my personal opinion if I was put in such a dilemma I would’ve, without any doubt, chosen my current job over the new one and continued with my college. I would’ve Graduated and earned a degree. A degree in hand does secure my position in future more than anything else. Though the idea of being a supervisor in a company does sound tempting but I have to look ahead and see how it helps in future and if I do take the Job now and happily become the supervisor of the company, 10 or 20years ahead in line I would still be stuck in the same position whereas people who started out with me would have been in a better job position since I did not even earn a degree or graduated properly. It would come to a full circle, Just like the old job I would be stuck to the same job for years and years without any growth because I did not have any kind of qualification.
Coming to the job I have right now, my current job offers tuition reimbursement. If I keep my job and graduate college and earn a master’s degree the chances of a promotion becomes high. In my opinion growth and development for future is more important than security for the present. As they say, ‘you will either step forward into growth or step backward into safety’.
I will not simply reject the offer that they have made to me but would try to negotiate about the joining date as if they can wait for another few months so that I can complete my bachelor’s degree. If they can’t then simply I would carry on with my current job and apply for promotion after the completion of my bachelor’s degree. This way the growth may come later but it will definitely be on the way rather than stop at a point after growing and being stagnant. In the end, I would prefer the current job profile where he has built his repo with all the employee and the status he made in the company during the whole time, eventually when he is eligible he will be promoted.
