Oppression Will Finally Be Revolted
Oppression is an easy way for the power to exploit the weak, and in general, the oppressors are acquisitive which means they are always not dissatisfy with what they have owned and they keep exploiting until the weak cannot bear for any time and when the oppressors have reached the end of the weak’s forbearance, it causes the people to revolt regardless of life.
No doubt Columbus was great for discovering Latin America, but it would be a great disaster for the Native American. Plundering, mass murder and destruction made earthshaking changes on American continent. In the movie Even the Rain, alternated between modern times and the time after quattrocento, Spanish oppress Native American. In a way that there is a movie in a movie to present the history from 500 years ago and continued conflicts in modern society overlay of each others, which enable people realize that the conflicts between contemporary development and aborigines has never stopped for a while. 500 years ago, Spanish forced Native American to convert to christianity and captured gold; now, 500 years after, caucasian governor forces aborigines to start modern life, and capture water from them. In the article, My Enemy, My self, the author had similar experience to be oppressed. For example, when he was walking on the street, he was arrested for no reason. Accompanying direct punch in his stomach followed immediately, and at that moment, he was just like a sheep for slaughter suffering gratuitous violence. Then the polices checked all of his stuffs and his ID. He was not treated as a normal man because he was the powerless.
The similarity of the history 500 years ago and still existing oppression is obvious. What foreign invaders, in the past, wants were golds ; now they want money, not to consider of others. What in their eyes is just money. Also just for money, people go out of their way to exploit from the vulnerable groups. the reason why the producer of film Costa choose to film in Bolivia is that the crowd here are very cheep that everyone is paid 2 dollars a day. When they build up the cross used in the film by labor’s hand, thirty thousand more can be save by that. The women assistant who shoot tidbits asks her the reason of filming, the local people reply for him that he films for money. They always want more because of their greed. What is similar in the book My Enemy, My Self, the Israeli government spent a great number of money for occupying a place where the bulk of Palestinians live, which could be benefit for them. However, if the Israeli government spend this money on Israeli people, it would be very helpful. Nevertheless, the Israeli government is so selfish that only spent money for their own benefit and they never considered of others.
In the movie Even the Rain, Daniel said that water is our life, so the right to fight for water is the same as fight for life that is a kind of unstoppable instinct. When Columbus carried flags of civilization and occupy the New World in the most rough and cruel way, defiance is the instinct for the American Indian who are tied on the cross. Instinctive defiance makes Daniel whenever in the movie or not send out a kind of unyielding power. He can plays this chiefs role is not because how much acting ability he has, but what he acts in the movie is exactly the same as the real him that constantly fight for the right to use water resources, for defiance is the instinct to bring home the bacon.. It is just like Daniel said in the movie that we paid heavily every time, but there is no other way. The big crowed of people who almost have lost their everything take to the streets to face unfriendly and intimidating polices. Parties of courageous fighters fall down, death by fire that aim at heretics is set up in the jungle, and women carrying babies walk into cold river… There are still only stones and fists in civil hands. However, their opponents have modern weapon with longer range and stronger lethal, and heavy armor has already replaced by riot helmets and bulletproof vests. The weak are still weak, and the cost of striving for basic living right is melancholy and pain. In the book, when Palestinians were forced to work in terrible conditions and their wages are unreasonably low because the government has more power over them. That is reason why Palestinian fight against government when they could not tolerate unfair treatment anymore.
Wherever oppressions existed, there would be resistance. Whoever they are weak or powerful, they can not be the one to be bullied. When people are under oppression, they always pay the cost in blood to defend their basic human rights.
