By now you should be able to list your tasks and assign predecessors. Now you need to determine the duration. This is done by figuring out how much you have and using charts, tables or history to tell you how long it will take.
If you have 2,000 SF of concrete driveway with brick edging to install, you can go to RS Means and find that it takes .069 labor hours to install a square foot of 10' wide driveway. Multiply the 2000 SF times .069 hrs/SF and the product will be the time in hours required to do the work.
If you are looking for more specific information you use the unit pricing. For example, to figure out how long it takes to install trusses, go to RS Means and follow the chart. A 32' span on a 4/12 slope w/ 1' overhang is .800 hours per truss or a daily output of 50 trusses for a F-6 crew. (Look up what the crew means in the Means book.) If you are doing a house that is 60 feet long and has trusses at 2' OC then there are 31 trusses. You can multiply the # of trusses by the hrs/unit or divide the # of trusses by the daily output to find how long it will take to do trusses.
You should be able to start assembling the schedule for a house by listing the tasks, predecessors and starting to calculate durations. The house plans are loaded onto D2L under "Johnson Plans". You can use these to figure out what tasks you will need to do and how long they will take. Look at the plans and write as a task all the things you see. If you see a window, write "windows" as a task. Use both plans and the specifications (page 1). Organize the tasks by assigning the predecessor to each one. The durations are determined by finding the quantity and converting to hours using the Means Book tables.
This will take some time and thought, but will go much quicker once you get the knack of it. Turn in a schedule in Excel with at least 40 tasks for the house and the predecessors as you see them. Estimate durations for the other tasks as best you can per your research into the topic. I will look at your logic and provide input. Do a network diagram as well so you can visualize the flow better.
