Example using Tableau Public

Original data on its own tab in Excel. Note this data has not been summarized and it has not been combined with the US data.

Reshaper:

After using Tableau Reshaping

Note that this screen print does not contain the complete set of data. The data goes through line 106

Next, I added column headings to the reshaped data to make it easy to see what data is in which column (it will also be helpful in Tableau to have real column names)

Next, I open Tableau

Click on the orange Open Data button:

Click on Microsoft Excel (left hand side).

Navigate to the Excel file you want to open. Click it. Then Click Open:

Drag the spreadsheet tab that you want into the Drag Sheets Here area. This would be your reshaped data with the changed column headings.

Click the orange Go to Worksheet button:

Now we arrange the data in Tableau.

I drag the HH Income by age of household data into the row area

I drag the Age data into the column area

I drag the percentage (under Measures) into the data area

Now I go to the show me area and see which graphs/charts I want to use. Tableau highlights (colors) those that seem to make sense to the software package:

Now I click through the choices until I find one I like:

Now I clean it up a bit.

I close the Show Me area

Drag the legend area over so I can see all of the colors that correspond to the different ages

I add a title (Right click to the right of the graph, in the open space. click Title and then edit it)

I add a caption (Right click to the right of the graph, in the open space. click Caption and then edit it)

The above is my complete Tablea graph for the dataset I imported.

Remember, in this example I did not summarize any of the data (you need to do that).

I also did not combine the 60614 data with the US data (you will need to do that).

Once you have all of this complete, then screen print and paste your work into your PowerPoint and crop the sizes so only your graph/legend/title/caption shows.

I hope this helps!
