Problem Statement:
“With the neutralization of internet, web technology is being utilized to the fullest and database system is since a backbone for web technology. Every business wants to have a web-base interface to attack more and more customers and provide excellence edge of service to their consumers. Restaurant POS has been bigger market which is looking for newer solution to manage food orders, inventory and so forth. Manual POS ended up with lots of fuzz and it is not considered as a solution for the today’s business. It is incapable of visualizing business records and profitability. Manual POS requires full attention of human body to maintain accounts and it is vulnerable to count loss, math issues and so on. Hence there needed a computerized and an online system to be a helping hand for the accountant and other staff of the restaurants.”
Over View Solution:
“The design I am implementing consists of a multifunction in house POS system to allow a restaurant to manage the majority of its functions from one central system. There will be multiple POS computers in the restaurant to allow each of the various employees to accomplish their job duties. The system will be coded in Java with a graphical front end and a SQL database backend. At this time the system will not be set up to work with internet and receive internet orders. At this time the POS system is strictly used in the restaurant. The system will handle seating, billing, food orders, payroll tracking, customer payment, system maintenance, and will interface with merchant payment system as well as the accounting system.”
“The users of the system will include the restaurant owner, the manager, the wait staff, general staff, host/hostess, the system administrator, and will work with the merchant payment system and accounting system. Each actor who comes in contact with the POS system will have different privileged and access to functions based on their job duties. Users will enter their employee ID in order to clock in and access functions that they are allowed to use. The owner has access to all business functions to be able to fill in where needed and run the business appropriately. The owner can keep tabs on the flow of the restaurant via each table; the table seating chart will track the status from seated, order processing, order processed, customer paid, and table empty. The system Administrator has full access to be able to troubleshoot and fix any issues within the system that may arise. The manager is responsible for keeping track of the staff report, can modify an order such as canceling an item or the whole order and has the ability to cancel a payment if necessary.”
“The wait staff has access to the seating chart to be able to track their assigned tables and input orders and print bills and input payment into the system for processing. The host/hostess is responsible for maintaining the seating chart in the POS system and seating customers as they come into the restaurant. The general staff (all staff who are paid hourly) will have access to the POS system to be able to clock in when coming into work, and clock out for breaks and when leaving. They also have the ability to log in and out of the POS system. The merchant system will be a separate system used to process credit card and debit card payments. The accounting system will be used to track the restaurant’s finances.”
“Adoption plan:”
“Restaurant Management is the bottle neck when it comes to tracking customer’s orders and the revenue generated out of it. The adoption of technology to solve myriads of management issues in food industry environment which includes profit tracking, order tracking, inventory management systems so on and so forth. It is seen that computerized management system is proven to be efficient solution for all most all businesses out there, web based management applications are light weight and highly available solutions for 24x7 open businesses. It organizes the records categorically and eliminates the messing of information with one another.”
“Methodology:”
“For developing Restaurant Management POS I would be using waterfall method that is one module after the other, because it is apt for the small course period of development. The stages of development are Planning, Requirement, Design, Development, Testing, and Deployment. Each phase of project development will be carried though out the week to match with the course duration. Planning and Requirement phases of waterfall method are already completed so far for my project. Designing require much time to sketch the suitable architecture for restaurant businesses. Development phases do also need good amount of time to effectively and flawlessly complete the project, this project not only has management capabilities but it will also provide web services that are for future use. These web services will be used for mobile devices like PDA, Cell phone to develop application and using JSON object. Testing phase of this project will be quick enough, just to save time and complete the project timely. These were my strategies to implement my project.”
Tools:”
“The following are the tools and technology that I am going to use for this project:”
|
“Technology:” |
“Java (DAO, BEANS and ODBC), HTML5, JQuery, CSS and Java Script” |
|
“Tools:” |
“Netbeans, Microsoft SQL studio 2012” |
|
“Database server:” |
“Microsoft SQL server” |
|
“Web server:” |
“Apache Tomcat 8.0” |
“Data security:”
“”Data security is the backbone for any project for its success, Restaurant management POS will be coded with session factory objects to maintain secure connection with the database and other objects of the system. Cookies and state management techniques will be used to manage maintain the security of overall system. Security audit will be done at every level of project implementation. For example Apache tomcat’s Catalina configurations will be edited as per the organizational security needs, web server will specifically have user restriction, access control and privileges oriented mechanism. Database system will have triggers, stored procedures and views to secure the database schema and encapsulate the information within it. Authentication and authorization solution will be selected to secure the user’s information at database level. All the communication within the deployment environment will be occurred on Kerberos protocol. Encryption standards will be maintained for adding security at the network level.”
“Requirements:”
“The Following use case diagram generalizes the functional requirement of the project with respect to project stake holders and the access permitted to each”
“Gap Analysis:”
“Manual POS system ended up with lots of fuzz and it is not considered as a solution for the today’s business. It is incapable of visualizing business records and profitability. Manual POS requires full attention of human body to maintain accounts and it is vulnerable to count loss, math issues and so on. Hence there needed a computerized and an online system to be a helping hand for the accountant and other staff of the restaurants””
“With the advancement of technology manageability is becoming easy using technological solutions in mobile devices. The proposed system provides state of the art mechanism for restaurant business with latest technology in use that is using today’s highly secure operating system like Android, IOS etc. The only aim of the planned environment is to build manageability portal for business stakeholders that can allow them to keep an eye from remote location which gives them time to analyze and act instantly.”
“Compliance:”
“Restaurant business basically has compliance with National Restaurant Association (NRA). NRA is a largest foodservice in the world; they help in empowering restaurant owners by providing tools, training and event on restaurant, hospitality management, culinary arts so on and so forth. Occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) complacence for restaurant qualifies a restaurant for public safety and food measures like Fire exit and extinguisher, use of proper PPE gloves, washable equipments are clean etc are complied in restaurant. It is always better to overlook OSHA violations in order to avoid business risks.”
“As far as software development and deployment is concerned ethics are largely related with the privacy and integrity of information. The use of Open source could be certainly an issue with the release of my web application, the intellectual property and copyright issue is central to the free software movement. Apache tomcat server is the only link in my software development that is freeware and it does not distinguish between personal, internal, or commercial use of apache tomcat web server until you are changing apache code and claiming to have copyright, redistributing it for commercial use.”
