MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISONS

This is the number one cause of child deaths worldwide with a reported total of over 250,000 children deaths in 2015. As indicated in the chart, this leads by a substantial amount.

DROWNING

The number two cause of child deaths is drowning with approximately 180,000 reported deaths. This trails motor vehicle collisions by over 70,000.

BURNS

Burns are the number three cause with just under 100,000 reported deaths worldwide. This is just over 80,000 less deaths than drowning or over 150,000 less reports of motor vehicle collisions.

FALLS

With just under 50,000 reports of children deaths by falling this is the fourth most common cause of death worldwide. Trailing burns by about 50,000, drowning by 130,000, and motor vehicle collisions by 200,000 reported deaths.

TOXINS

The fifth most common cause of death for children is toxins with approximately 48,000 reports. This is just under 2,000 less than falls, 52,000 less than burns, 132,000 less than drowning, and 202,000 less than motor vehicle collisions.

CONCULSION

Overall, motor vehicle collisions causes the most deaths of children worldwide by a large portion, followed by drowning, burns, and then approximately the same number of deaths for falls and toxins.

RECOMMENDATIONS

To help prevent similar statistics in 2016:

1. When you are driving in your car with a child be sure to use extra caution

2. Do not leave children alone near water

3. Do not let children near something that could burn them without supervision

4. Make sure kids cannot fall off of things

5. Keep all toxins locked away from kids
