I pasted this from google:
The Statement of Purpose should be a concise, well-written statement about an applicant’s academic and research background, career goals, and how this graduate program will help meet career and educational objectives.
My personal story that you might need:
About me: from China, just graduated from University of Cincinnati as undergrad in accounting.
Applying Master –acct for the same school.
GPA ONLY 2.7 ( do not address if possible)
talkative, stubborn, always want to help out dad on works when I was little.
My dad is CFO+CPA+accountant,
Trigger why I want to be accountant when I grew up: dad never told me what he does at work, he thinks they are “too complicated” for a young kid like me to understand (true, but im stubborn, remember?) – so then I said to myself I need to be an accountant then dad would talk to me about his work and we can share our work experience( stuff like that)
Trigger 2
The 1st time my dad actually told me about what he did as accountant for that day was very unsuccessful---I did not understand half of the things he said, I couldn’t keep up. That’s when I just transferred to UC as junior accounting student. I was lost and kept doubting my ability to learn accounting. I lost interests for accounting for the 1st time,
Then one event completed changed my mindset and my path. Professor Reed,(should we include names in SOP?)--- I took managerial accounting class with her, She offered TA positions at the end of the semester, She accepted my application right away by knowing my grade wasn’t that good, she “predicted” my potential, she trusted me that I was be able to handle everything and be a good TA, I didn’t let her down.
One of the reason why UC--- because people like Reed inspire me, lead me and mentor me so I became who I am today.
