Prof 2016
1) Objectives
During this course, you will be introduced to a variety of Network Management topics, all of which you will encounter again and again here at DeVry and in your professional career.
In this week, you will prepare a research report in which you will summarize and present what you have learned this week in your Introduction. Each exercise must be completed on a separate page of your report.
Guidelines
This week, you will prepare a research report that thoroughly answers the following two exercise questions.
1. Exercise 3 of Chapter 1 on page 49: Draw the route diagram (Something similar to Figure 1.2 on page 8) identifying each node for the following data that was obtained using a trace routing tool. What is the average time a packet takes to travel from noc2 host to netman host? noc2% traceroute netman.cc.gatech.edu traceroute to netman.cc.gatech.edu (130.207.8.31), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets main-rtr.gcatt.gatech.edu (199.77.147.1) 1.045 ms 1.012 ms 0.971 ms. 130.207.251.2 (130.207.251.2) 2.198 ms 1.404 ms 1.837 ms. netman.cc.gatech.edu (130.207.8.31) 3.528 ms 1.671 ms 1.602 ms.
2. Exercise 18 of Chapter 1 on page 51: As a network engineer in a Network Operations Center, you are following up on two trouble tickets. You do not have a network management system and you have to use the basic network tools to validate the problem before you can resolve them. Please explain what tools you would use in each case and how it would validate the customer complaint (a) Trouble Ticket 100: Customer says that when he receives messages, the message is periodically missing some characters. (b) Trouble Ticket 101: Customer in Atlanta complains that when she tries to log into the system server.headquarters.com in New York, she gets disconnected with a time-out. However, her colleague in her New York office reports that he is able to access the system.
The Project Report template link can be found on the Assignments page. The report should be at least two pages long of text (pictures are additional), font size 12, and double spaced. Your report should follow this format. Below is the grading rubric for the Week 1 Paper.

During this course, you will be introduced to a variety of Network Management topics, all of which you will encounter again and again here at DeVry and in your professional career.
In this week, you will prepare a research report in which you will summarize and present what you have learned about the Management Information Base (RFC 1213).
Guidelines
This week, you will prepare a research report summarizing the key components of the MIB. Be sure to discuss how the MIB is currently used, its importance to SNMP, and future trends.
The Project report template link can be found on the Assignments page. Your report should follow its format. Below is the grading rubric for the Week 3 Paper.

In this week, you will prepare a research report in which you will summarize and present what you have learned this week in your Introduction. Each exercise must be completed on a separate page of your report.
Guidelines
This week, you will prepare a research report that thoroughly answers the following three exercise questions. Each exercise should be prepared on a separate page of your report.
1. Exercise 10 of Chapter 12 on page 505: The network shown in Figure 12.44 on page 506 is an MPLS network with all routers configured as Label-Switching Routers (LSRs). The paths (LSPs) are determined using TE (Traffic Engineering). The address of each router is x.x.x.x where x is the router number, for example, 1.1.1.1. Explain your reasoning and fill in the R2 routing table:
1. for paths with no tunnels and
2. for paths with tunnels T1 and T2.
2. Exercise 6 of Chapter 13 on page 553: Cable modems on the coaxial part of the topology of an HFC configuration shown in Figure 13.3 on page 510 are a tree structure. Cable modems with Ethernet stations resemble an Ethernet LAN. Contrast an HFC coaxial broadband LAN with a regular Ethernet LAN on: (a) topology, (b) downstream protocol, and (c) upstream protocol.
3. Exercise 6 of Chapter 14 on page 582:
1. What MIB table would you use to measure the QoS of service flow in a fixed wireless system between the base station and the subscriber station?
2. Define latency and jitter for service flow in a fixed wireless system.
3. Write the specific managed objects associated with latency and jitter.
