Catalog Description and Prerequisites:
Prerequisites: CIS 272
Analysis, design, and development of business applications using object-oriented programming languages. Topics include GUI interface, application optimization, client/server applications, ad hoc queries, and dynamic link libraries.

Course Objectives
This course provides students with a hands-on application of object oriented programming paradigm and skills required to create console-based and form-based applications. The course covers the basics of console/windows based applications, C# fundamentals, object-oriented programming (OOP), strings, GUI components, exception handling, and other topics such as database/web applications if time allows.

The Website contains course syllabus, PowerPoint slides, announcements, exercises/assignments, tests, grades and other class information. Please check the Website for updates. Go over assigned materials and complete assigned console based and form based applications. It is highly recommended that you come to the lab sessions to complete the weekly assignments before the due dates. Use Blackboard to upload your assignments as instructed on or before their designated due dates.
Student Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to
· Understand the concepts and elementary use of .NET and the syntax and use of C# as a development tool. (Outcome 3, 4, 5, Student Attributes c, f, h)
· Able to use the best techniques for handling exceptions, validating data, and debugging applications. Be able to use C# to develop substantial business applications. (Outcome 3, 4, 5, Student Attributes c, f, h)
· Able to use C# to develop applications that work with databases. (Outcomes 3, 4, 5, Student Attributes b, c, h, and i)
Assessment Procedures
Student learning objectives will be accessed by a combination of the following components:
· Exercises/assignments to test ability to design and write objected-oriented programs to solve business problems
· Exams: 2 mid-term and 1 final, to test the stated learning objectives
Course Expectations and Policies:
· Course Expectations: Each student is expected to read the assigned materials and prepare the programming assignments prior to class. The university standard for course workload is two hours of outside work for every hour in class, i.e., a 3-unit course requires 9 hours of work/week.
· Electronic devices: Personal electronic devices must be turned off in the lab.
· Lab session attendance: Attendance of lab sessions is optional. However, the nature of the course requires a firm foundation in the basics before proceeding to more advanced materials. It is extremely difficult to catch up, once behind. For that reason, it is highly recommended that you come to the lab sessions to work on the weekly assignments. If you miss a lab session, it is your responsibility to obtain what you have missed from a fellow student.
· Academic Integrity: Cheating or plagiarism in connection with an academic program or class at a campus is subject to discipline as provided in Sections 41301 through 41304 of Title 5, California Code of Regulations. Please see the University Catalog for further information. This code applies both exams and assignments. Should two or more students turn in an identical assignment, I will consider this to be cheating and will grade the assignment accordingly, that is both (all involved) students will receive a zero grade for that assignment.

PROPERLY DOCUMENTED. See assignments posted on website.
· Due Dates/Make-Up Work: Examinations must be taken as scheduled. You MUST use the Blackboard Learning System to submit your homework assignments. NO EMAIL ATTACHMENTS will be accepted. Weekly assignments are due on the following Monday. There will be a 20% deduction each day for Tuesday and Wednesday submission. The submission link will no long available after Wednesday (NO EXCEPTION). The instructor reserves the right to change a due date.
